CLK door rattling issue FIXED

I found the issue with the rattling on the CLK doors.

I have a 2004 CLK 500 convertible and had the issue with the doors rattling over bumps. I looked at these posts to see how I can take the door panel off. After taking the door panel off I found that the door regulator screw is missing.

Please note: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR DOOR PANEL TO FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!!

under the door there are two round rubbers. Take out the larger one and you will see a screw to hold the bottom of the window regulator.

You are either missing a #10 nut or a loose one.

put a metal washer under the nut.

Hope this helps

Very interesting. I have had this problem in both a CLK320 and CLK500 convertibles.
Sure beats pulling the door panels

You ARE the man! Dude, I can't tell you how irritated I was getting with my car and that damn rattling noise coming from the driver side door. Once I daw your post I popped the large cap off and found the nut to be attached but very loose.

Question - the hole that the threads go through is obviously not round. What is the best position to tighten that nut?

There is an adjustment you need to make:

Thanks Rudeney. I checked the front guide rail nut and it was not loose. To avoid potentially making things worse I left it alone and simply adjusted the rear guide rail in relation to the back glass. I did have it out of alignment. With both windows up there was a very slight gap between the two where they came together at the top. By adjusting the rear guide rail toward the outside of the door it adjusted the glass inward and closed the gap between the two.

Thanks again for your reply. This forum has saved my *** this weekend.

+1

This weekend I checked my driver side door and I verified that the source of that rattling I've been enduring all those years was a result of a missing nut and washer!

I couldn't find a nut that would work, does anyone have a part number or a description (I believe there are different thread types available) to use to find a suitable nut/washer?

I tackled this job this past weekend; I went to the hardware store and bought a M6-1.00 nut ($0.60) and it was a perfect fit! I aligned everything and tighten the nut, no rattle!
