CLK 550 stumble 5th to 6th
Hi, I seem to have a slight stumble~hesitation betwen 4th and 5th. Its subtle and does not seem to happen all the time. Anyone experienced any similar? Thanks for any input

I haven't noticed in on mine. Have you ever had the TCU reflashed? I had mine done (dealer only job) about two years ago. It really smoothed out all shifts. Its main fix is the harsh downshift to 1st when coming to a stop.

Dealer said if the check engine light is not on, reflash could make it worse...went on to say if its subtle its very likely not an issue... Powerful car blah blah, said hes not heard of any issues in his 10 years.
Is it unfair to compare the shifting to my 2010 E350?

Update: test drove a 2009 550 coupe at a local dealer today, with 35k...wow mine was so much smoother and better running. Perhaps im over thinking this...lol thx

The 722.9 transmission can shift "oddly". My advice is to ignore any strange shifts. If you have grinding. whining noises, then that needs diagnosis, as would "limp mode", but otherwise, the occasional rough or stuttering shift is "normal".
Oh, and your dealer is an idiot - they re-flash the TCU all the time to fix the "rolling downshift to 1st clunk" problem.

After further overthinking, the car is in 6th and seems to take a lil longer to down shift when u give it gas. I'm a new owner and wonder if the tranny has simply learned the previous owners (older woman) habits, any not my very likely more spirited driving? Would the tcu reflash help in that regard, dealer said hed do it for $120. Go for it? Thx

I would pay for the re-flash. It made my shifts much smoother. They weren't bad before, though I know what to expect from MBZ transmissions. Many owners gripe about the shifts because they expect the ultimate in smoothness from MBZ. That's one reason they change the code so that the downshift to 1st doesn't happen until the car comes to a complete stop. It prevents that clunk or jump when slowing down at low speeds.
