Satisfying Clunk

For every MB I sat in, it gives a satisfying clunk when I close the door. It is the same even with the pillarless design of my w209.

I went to see my buddy today who sells MB and he showed me the new C sedan. The new C Class is great besides the navigation screen.

My friend made a point to show me the door closing of the car. It was smooth but it felt light and definitely no "clunk". I said I was not sure if I liked it . He then showed me a new S Class in the showroom, it's the same, light and no more solid feel. He told me this is something new for MB.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The S class should give no "satisfying clunk" as they have electric door closers. My CLK actually has more of a "clanking noise" when the glass is down.

I did not notice the electric door closer in the S Class in the showroom today. Also, my friend has a S550 (maybe 2012) and I did not notice it.

I did notice the electric door closer in a CL500. IMO, it's grimicky with no real purpose.

Benz is shedding weight for fuel efficiency reasons with the use of lightweight high tech materials. You certainly feel it in the doors like when Jag first went aluminium on the XJ's

The CLK door thunk is slightly spoiled by the pillarless window sealing mechanism.
