05 CLK 320 Display Malfunction

Hey again everyone

New issue! HOORAY /sar

I've noticed out of the corner of my eye every now and then that some of my cluster warning lights will flash on and off. Just tiny flickers; the high beam or the CEL will flush on for a microsecond and go away. It does;t impact the drive in any way.

On Monday though, the display threw "DISPLAY MALFUNCTION" at me. Again, driving isn't impacted, but I've noticed that my signal lights are affected; they work, but will sometimes pause for a second and start again.

I've read here that fiddling with the wires under the passenger seat COULD cause this, but I really have no idea. Any thoughts?

Thanks

That actually sounds like a cluster failure. If it is, that's not a cheap repair.

So everything was fine there for a while...

First, I noticed my sunroof controls were acting up. A push in any direction only activates the roof for a short motion.

But then. yesterday I was on the highway for a short stint. When I got off, I came to a red light and the car stalled. (The only upside to the situation is that the guy's furious reaction behind me was HILARIOUS.) It started up right away, but obviously this is a major issue.

Then I parked to car to go shopping. When I came out after about an hour, I tried starting it, and it cranked but wouldn't turn over. This happened maybe 5 times. It finally started up, but right away started throwing codes at me: Display Malfunction (Lights), Display Malfunction (Electrical), and SRS Restraint malfunction.

This has me super worried, so I've made an appointment for Thursday morning to drop it at the Stealership.

One question for everyone though: Is there a chance the airbags could go off randomly? With all this glitchy stuff going on, it was my number one worry driving home

Check battery voltage. You should see 12.6v at rest, no less than 11v when the starter engages, then 14v at idle.

Hey again all.

Took the car in to the MB Dealership in downtown Toronto. They ran diagnostics and are replacing the Crank Position Sensor. They're also confident that it may be the cause of ALL my issues, since if the sensor is faulty, it could be causing voltage issues and shorts which cause my display to go all haywire.

Hoping they're right; has anyone here had a similar experience and solve?

Cheers

Good luck - let us know how that comes out.

On a related note, a coworker has a W208 CLK320 coupe that refused to start last week. I suspect a bad CPS and sure enough, she got it back today and that was it. The dealer charger her $400! I know the "list" price on the part is over $150, but even at that horribly inflated price, $250 for labor is just crazy!

I actually think that's pretty reasonable. My service cost $500 (taxes in), and that included the initial inspection, the diagnostic (a standard $288 flat rate), labour & installation and the part itself.

If it was a Honda Civic I'd be outraged, but considering this is a 1-gen old mid-range Mercedes Benz, that's not too shabby.
