UPDATE ON STALLING PROBLEMS

UPDATE (orignal post:https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...ml#post6487161)

So the stalling problems continued after the 4th MAF and 2 weeks ago the car went back to the dealer. Another thing I finally noticed was that when the car was stalling, it felt like there was a lot of engine resistance while driving - like it took more pedal force to move the tachometer and that the engine was revving pretty high before it would shift. Weird.

I asked the dealer to check all the sensors including the crank sensor, and all wiring harnesses etc. Their response was if there's no code for these things, there's no reason to believe they've failed. That didn't make me feel to good. I read that the crank sensor could go bad without triggering a code - is this true?

In any case, after 2 weeks with my car the dealer wants to replace my ME control unit for 2k. This worries me because I don't think they really KNOW what is the issue and that after putting down 2k down the problem is still there.

Is it unreasonable for me to insist they check or double check all wiring and sensors, code or not? WTF am I gonna do lol.

My wife is like eff it, let's get a new car but I'm attached to this one..still.

It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter

Also i dont think its unreasonable to ask them to double check, as long as your paying for their time.

I'll have them check this. Would a clogged cat cause an MAF code?

if the engine cant get the air out, it cant take it in correctly so possibly. and a clogged cat would cause the same symptoms. Cars and codes are weird, ive had cars with bad cats and throw no cat or o2 codes. So i always look at codes but try going by what i know would cause the symptoms also .
Its worth checking, you can disconnect the exhaust or check the temp of the pipes and cats if you have the laser thermometer . its worth checking

I know somebody told you to check for vacuum leak before, but your symptoms sound like a serious Vacuum leak. Drop some water onto the intake manifold with the car running; i have a feeling the manifold is broken somewhere or there's a huge leak from one of the seals. if the engine shakes or acts weird when water touches a certain area on the manifold then thats where the leak is.

ML 350 Bluetec
information regarding to stalling

Hello all, yesterday while I was at a res light my suv which is an ML 350 Bluetec, stalled. I've never heard of anything such as this from a Mercedes so it was pretty unusual. I tried to start the engine by keyless entry system for 3 times but nothing happened. Eventually, in 4 th time rhe engine started but it sounded rather strange. It was rattling and making strange noise. Also you could feel that the Suv was struggling to pull, in fact it was like as if someone was giving a push from the back and that was it. Luckily the workshop was only a mile away. I dropped the truck and today they replied about the situation. They told me that they had done a software update for the car which they believe will be the solution for the problem. Also they told me that they were waiting a reply from Mercedes Benz headquarters in order to check if the software update is sufficient enough. Also it's worth mentioning what they added. They told me that the car was running strange because after the stall, the engine shot down three of its cylinders which makes me worry if they did any damage to the engine?

First of all you'll need to post on the correct sub forum to get the right help this is the CLK sub forum here. Merc's engines are designed to shut off cylinders if they detect a fault to preserve your catalytic converter, and thats normal. turning the car off and on will reset this and if there's no fault then the car will run fine, if it shuts down the cylinders again instantly then theres still a fault that needs remedying.
