My 1st Auto gearbox oil service 140k

I changed my gearbox oil today I don't think its ever been changed. The oil that came out was green and very degraded in to black, the magnet was very gunked up as was the filter. I put in what I got out, the car feels no different but I'm glad I changed it (well 3.6 liters of it anyway).

I'd say that's pretty typical. The 722.9 in my CLK looked like that after 40K miles.

I think you have the 722.6, when I drained mine like that to replace the fluid, 4.4 liters came out as opposed to your 3.6.

Make sure you fully drained it and/or since the car has gone 140k without a fluid change, maybe it was low on fluid already.

You should measure the fluid level properly using the measurement tool at the right transmission temperature.

Interesting but I'm not too worried, I do have the dipstick to measure but its not measuring low at operating temp.

If you really want to get all the old oil out, you can do a flush now that you've changed the filter:

I used Mercedes own ATF 134.

At £20/L the MB fluid is ridiculously overpriced. They take Fuchs Titan ATF4134 and rebrand it as their own.

I got this from Opies Oils at the equivalent of about £8/L.

The shift quality was never bad, but now; it's incredible.
