I've personally never liked the look and would much rather drill four small holes in the bumper.

It actually doesn't look so bad. I am not comfortable drilling into my bumper . Plus I need to get the special plastic plate holder for my car. I actually had it zip tied to the middle grill but it was blocking the air flow to the radiator and my fans would keep kicking on. I actually got carbon fiber plate frame which will match my spliter .

I've personally never liked the look of a front tag in any position and am glad to live in a state that does not require them!

Same thing here . In NY there even worse . I remember on my old car I got pulled over and they had this machine to check the tints they gave $90 ticket per window . Good thing it was a couple lol . But what are you going to do .

I have the plate holder too - you really need that. But I painted mine body color so it's not just a chunk of black plastic, and I bought MB's curved stainless frame (which requires some mods to the plastic holder to sit perfectly flush) so overall mine looks as seamless as a front mounted plate can. I've never lived in a state with no front plates, so it doesn't bother me.

When I bought my clk a few years ago I was happy to notice that is had no front place or holes in the bumper cover. I didn't mention is to the dealership people and I should have. When I took delivery sure enough there was the front plate drilled into the bumper cover! The said "oh, we couldn't deliver the car with no front plate on per the DMV". Not sure if it was true or not but of course now I have to live with the holes

My CLK and my SL both came from California, so they had the front plate holders installed. I kept it on the CLK and put my college team's plate on it, but it looks HORRIBLE on the SL. I removed it and used touch-up paint to fill the holes. You can still see them, but it looks 100% better than a front plate.

I used to have " XLR 8" as my plate on an old 3 litre Ford Capri back in the day. You need to read it out loud to get it. One day I was offered more than I could refuse by a guy with a new Countach...yes thats how long ago it was....so I sold it!
