AMG posers

Yep =) to +1 your response, the SL is a V8 obviously and has the AMG styling package but if it had an AMG badge it's posing, people will often use AMG appearance package as the flimsy justification for the badge when it isn't and no factory Mercedes will come with one. It often happens that people buy them from the dealer that way because someone down the line thought that was a good idea.

Understood. Still think it odd that MB produced it's own version of a poser vehicle. Ex. A non-AMG vehicle with factory AMG embossed staggered wheels, body modifications, and styling package. Maybe the badge was dealer installed? Can't imagine someone would molest a $95,000 vehicle within the first few years in that way. (There I go again, trusting humanity again).
Since the vehicle is white and the badge has been on for at least 9 years I'm guessing, I'll leave it on until I can get a concrete answer. I'd rather not have ghost "V8 AMG" marks on an otherwise flawless car.

Thank you for the objective response. As also noted in a previous response/post, I too took the shroud off of the top of the motor only to find AMG stickers (2) on the manifold. What I am sure of is that I do not have the larger brakes and anti-roll suspension. A very interesting roadster it is...

Obviously your decision, but if your car says V8 AMG anywhere on the outside, time to take the AMG part of that off. It was added later and would never be put on a non-AMG car. As for the V8 you're good to go. Up to you in the end if you wanna take if off, but if you don't I'm sure you might find it on here one day
The car is not a "poser" car unless there is an AMG badge on the car itself, if some individual components say AMG on them as they are part of the manifold, wheels and body etc. they are what they are. It is not a poser version of anything because the car itself is not badged as an AMG. Just like with a BMW it's okay to put M components on a 335i for instance if you want to, even if they say M, but the minute you change the badging to say M you're passing off the car as something it's not. THAT is what this thread is about. Speaking of which, allow me to contribute lol, I think the W220 S-Class is the car I see this most commonly occur on:

In 2003 the CLK55 crushed the CLK500 in terms of performance, like the CLK63 does to your CLK550 since 2007 and just like the E63 coupe (if it existed) would destroy the new E550 coupe now or use the sedans for comparison.
Comparing a non-AMG to an AMG that is a whole engine and transmission generation older and saying it is slightly better doesn't really say much. There are hundreds of new models faster than a C36 AMG, I'm not sure why a 370z, M3 or STI should have an AMG badge.

+1 like saying my E550 is faster than the E55 M113 (NA), not really saying much and still doesn't make it an AMG in any sense lol

Yep except for the suspension, larger brakes, speedo maybe? lots of little bits of trim. The CLK550 is a fantastic car but the M113 came out in 1998 your M273 came out 8 years later.

That is the worst justification I've ever heard for calling a car an AMG. So, certain cars have AMG sports packages where they ACTUALLY have AMG on the wheels or on the window sticker. Still does not make it an AMG, and it's still posing. No AMG engine == not an AMG.

Early this morning im cruisin in a 35mph zone, I see HIDs coming up on me to my left, a relatively clean 219 CLS with a body kit from some tuner(most likely lorinser, cant stand em).
Anyway, He has V8 Kompressor on the fender so im like sweet, a fifty five! He passes me slowly to show me his sick "CLS63 AMG" emblems on his trunk... I look at his exhaust and its the 500 mufflers looking skinny as hell no thanks to his gaudy rear bumper's huge cutouts.....
To top if off, he had an AMG license plate frame. I wish I had time to snap a few pics but although his car is cringe central, its his car at the end so whatever anyone says is irrelevant. Right? lol

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
So next question: if you DO have a real amg, is there a limit on how many amg badges you can put on it? Lol

Depends peter, each badge is ~100hp. If you have more than about 6 of these badges, I'm not sure you would want to daily drive the car anyway.

2013 C300 - AMG Wheels
The dealership around her do slap the AMG trunk logo on the Mercedes having the AMG wheels only. I have seen it first hand.
Mine has the AMG 18 wheels that came with the car and I'm sure if I told the dealership (reputable here) he would have slapped one on.

Posers Make Me Sick
Saw a C250 with an AMG badge on the trunk lid last week on the way to work. I was so upset that I turned around and drove home, shaking so bad that I could hardly keep the car in lane. Half crazed with anger I kicked the dog, beat my wife, took a couple of tranquilizers and crawled into bed. Not feeling any better the next morning I went to the emergency room and asked the doc what was wrong with me. "You've obviously seen an AMG poser" was his reply. "Quite common nowadays" he added.

Hahahahaha "I can't come in to work today I just saw an AMG poser. No, yes... I think I'm dying of terrible. Okay thanks see you Monday."
