CARBON FIBER HOODS BEING MADE?????

Hi all ,

My project is moving along and it time for body parts. Im looking to get carbon hood , doors, fenders and trunk parts made. In order to get good pricing i need to order 5 minimum. prices are not set in stone yet, depends on how many people get on board. Roughly a hood dzuzed on would be around $1500. More info will be posted as more interest is shown. These will be real carbon throughout no BS here.

I am potentially interested if these bits will fit on a W208 320. Carbon doors sound VERY exciting

Who would be making these parts? You said real carbon fiber parts not bs. I see many real carbon fiber parts that are pretty low quality. I did one for a friends R8. He paid $2500.00 for it and that wasn't retail as he's a dealer. I don't recall the brand of that one I'd have to ask. About a year ago another guy I know bought a X5 M and got a hood from Vorsteiner that was bad enough he decided to not use it. That one was about twice what the R8 hood cost. He swears that he's sure it wasn't a knock off but I've seen other Vorsteiner parts that were nice quality pieces on a couple of Porsches. On the R8 we were able to leave enough carbon fiber showing to make some nice stripes. The rest of it was bad enough that I had to straighten, prime, seal and paint. After clearing , sanding then re clearing we ended up with nice looking stripes that are flush so you see but can't feel them. Anyway, guess it just depends on picky the person is I guess . Some are just wanting to save weight and others feel that it's ok for CF parts to not be as straight or to have visible matte (pattern) flaws or inconsistencies . I feel like if it's going on my car I want it to have the fit and finish of the parts I'm replacing. Sorry for the long *** novel. Just figured I'd share a bit of what I've run across regarding CF parts.

2PRECISE can you let me know what sort of pricing you end up with? I'm waiting to hear back on the cost for a custom carbon shop to make them here in NZ.

I was under the impression that genuine carbon fiber was extremely strong, ie like steel and not suitable for body panels as they don't crumple properly (read an old article in a car magazine). I imagine the hood would just go through the cabin (and occupants) and out the other side. Please correct me if I am wrong, keen to learn.
