Stuck in Park

I've read the other posts, on the issue and the fix for the problem. i plan on effecting the repair myself. I have two questions; 1) the car is at an indy shop (was there for something else). is there a way to get the car drivable so i can get it home to repair it. 2) i have Keyless Go, and i have not seen any specific threads on how to safely remove the gear shift knob with keylessGo. If anyone has a link or directions on how to remove it, i'd be grateful.

Thank you in advance

Have you tried posting in the w209 non amg section? There is a lot more action there as far as viewers and posting goes. You will be much better off posting in that section. I had an 02 ml320 a while ago and I had to stick a pen I'm the side there was an opening and it allowed me to shift it from park. Goodluck

Sounds like the brake light switch, It takes only a few minutes to replace and available everywhere auto parts are sold.

Thanks. The mechanic said he checked the brake switch. It's just strange BC I hadn't had any issues prior

There are two sets of contacts on the switch, one is for the brake lamps, the other is data that unlocks the shift mechanism or solenoid.

The shifter would be the next place to look once it is confirmed the switch is ok.

That is a special shifter containing many electronic components, often fluids get spilled, coffee or beer etc.. will destroy the shifter.

It is located under the steering wheel. You need to remove the cover. Do a quick search there are a number of tutorials on this. By the way ONLY us the MB original one!!!!! I have tried going with the cheaper ones DONT do it.

hello everyone,
i picked up my car this morning. i was able to drive it home, although i could not put in park. on the way home i noticed a few things. 1. the speedometer was not working (moving) and the electronic one was not registering either. 2.The ABS light was on. I was also receiving an error about brake wear. and 3. my top was not working. Now i have had these things happen before, but never experienced the whole Stuck in park issue.
Once i got it home i decided to try a few things. I started by disconnecting the negative connection of the battery for about 30 seconds; What do yo know, all is well. Started right up, while in park, and was able to shift out of P, top works, and errors went away. so we shall see what the future holds.

Thank you for all the responses
