07 BMW 750Li or 06-07 CLS
Hello everybody
Im currently considering assuming a lease due to the cheaper prices for the exact same car -- Which car would you go with? An 07 BMW 750Li with an MSRP of around $91K or a CLS with a P1/P2 package, and probably an MSRP of $77-81K? Assuming BMW is refreshing the 7 next year (Albeit a very small refresh that looks almost exactly the same)? I currently have the 08 E350 and the interior of the E350 looks better than the CLS, which is a bit of a downer. Any ideas?

back and forth
We leased a new current 7 series when they first came out (745i). When the lease ended, we leased a new 06 CLS500. When that lease ended, we moved back into a 750Li. Now my wife wants a CLS550.
Pros: 750Li
much better gas mileage (up to 27 hwy), more power, better handling, WAY more rear seat room, easier getting in and out, better front seats (multicontour), better gauges (plasma display), better trip computer, better nav system, great sound system (Logic 7), huge trunk, free maintenance to 4yr/50k, seats 5, very luxurious.
Pros: CLS
sharper exterior styling, smaller and easier to park (only with parktronic), smoother transmission, no "I-Drive", seats 4 (no in-laws), very sporty.
So:
We like them both (obviously). My wife really misses her first CLS but never said much about either 7 after it was gone.

750... if you want comfort and better interior... but the outer body is a bit too common.. great car for commute and comfort.... and you can put 22" wheels.....
but I recall reading somewhere there's a new 7 series coming out soon..

This is my first time hearing that the interior of an E class looks better than the interior of a CLS. No way!
I think both cars are really different. If you want a big sedan go with the 7, and if you want both sports car and sedan, then CLS.

In my opinion, The 750Li (or any BMW for that matter) is like having a lazy, faithless girlfriend, that you put up with because she is so hot.
The CLS is just a really awesome car.

That quote originally came from a loyal BMW owner.
I have owned MB for 32 years. I owned 3 bimmers during that time and I will never buy another one. I thought, since MB and BMW are in close proximity to each other, they trade engineers and designers, much like we do here in the states. "The quality can't be that different", was my delusion.
In my opinion, the quality of both MB and BMW is pretty close. The complexity is where MB wins.
Compare the suspension design of a CLS to it's comparable BMW car. BMW has no less than 2x the number of parts, including axle parts, at each corner. The labor required to replace any of those parts is more than 2x that of MB.
Keeping the "Ultimate Driving Machine" motto comes with a cost. That cost is passed onto the owner.
Try joining a BMW forum like this one. You will find that most members are stressed out weenies. They will lash out and scold people who ask simple questions. Here, most members are fairly calm and peaceful because they know their car will start tomorrow morning.
