2008 E320 Bluetec Cold start noise
So my 2008 E320 Bluetec is making a ticking noise at start up. It sounded like a bad timing chain tensioner but replacing it with a new Febi one did not fix it. The noise goes away and does not come back until the car is parked for I would say 8-12 hours but could measured more accurately if it helps.
I have a video of the sound if that helps
any ideas I was thinking about doing the tensioner again with the MB part to see if that helps? Also was thinking about getting the chain slack checked but it sounds expensive and even though I do most everything on my car think it is out of my league? Anyone happen to have done it and can tell me otherwise?
Thanks
Trey

Trey ~ it seems to be related to oil pressure rise. It sounds chain like so your tensioner was a good call. It might also be a hydraulic lifter taking a few seconds to pump up.

OM642 is 'easy' to check how much tensioner is retracted
Open oil filler cap, and tensioner shaft is seen:

if oil hole of the shaft is visible, chain is stretched:

Position of the shaft is altering slightly (according what I've read) so you need check it few times between engine run/stop...
