Smile DRL during nighttime

I have 2012 e-coupe P1. The DRL seems fine during daytime but it doesnt work during nighttime. does anyone know how to turn DRL on during nighttime altogether with the headlamps ?

What do you mean they "don't work"? As in not at all? My 2012's work but they are only at about 1/2 as bright as they are during the day.

If I remember correctly, I have read that...

- For the 2012 cars that have P2 package, (at least in the US) the LED DRL will be On when the headlight is On (though the DRL will be in dimmer-mode, so not to blind the other drivers on the road.)

- For the 2012 US cars that do not have P2 package, (at least in the US) the LED DRL will be Off when the headlight is On (I am hoping some aftermarket 'hack' would be out soon, so to make the LED DRL stays on full-brightness all the time.)

Regards,

That's pretty strange - all 2012 E coupes have LED DRL's so why would there be a difference in function based on the premium package?

Welcome to the forum.

Using the steering wheel arrow buttons and the instrument cluster multi-function display, try navigating to Settings > Lights > Day Lights > click OK.

The main light switch should be in the "A" (Auto) position.

If this does not work, then it may well be that the DRL's are not designed to work with the P1 package as previously stated. That doesn't make sense to me either.

Cool

I tried the procedure suggested by BenzMan on mine with P1. It didn't work. It would be interesting if someone knew of a hack.

Thanks. Sorry it doesn't work.

Makes no sense to me. I can't imagine there is an electrical or electronic necessity for it.

Perhaps MB considers the DRL's remaining on at reduced output when the headlights are on to be just an additional exterior lighting enhancement provided by the P2 package, in addition to the Bi-Xenons, active curve illumination, adaptive highbeam assist and corner-illuminating front lamps.

I have it and IMO it looks very nice, even at reduced output.

Welcome to the world of M-B knows best. Instead of individual switches for the owner's use, we get preselected configurations based on M-B thinking. Go figure. Maybe the coding can be altered by your dealer?
All of this goes way beyond light switching. The new 2012 350 engine is a classic case of trickle out upgrades. C-Class cars got it while the GLK, from the same factory, didn't get it. So much for BlueEfficiency.

Yes the solution is the little button just to the left of the head light ***. Sorry I dont have a pic but, if you press the button you will turn the DRL on or off.

The problem statement is the DRL'S with the P1 package do not illuminate at night. At least this is consistent with the 2012 with P1. The button you left of the headlight rotary switch is a button that controls the rear fog brake Light. Pressing this button makes the red tail lights slight brighter. This button does not turn the DRL'S off or on during night time operation. I tried operating this button during daylight hours and the DRL'S turned off and the headlights came On. At night, when the button is pressed the rear tail light gets slightly brighter.

But the discussion is the DRL's will not turn On at night equipped with the P1. Check it again at night. If your DRL happen to turn on, I would be interested in the month your automobile was manufactured.

Wow,interesting. Seems like Mercedes made a production change. When was your vehicle manufactured? Month, Year. Mine was manufactured 07/11. Model Year 2012. (not hockey stick style DRL)

I'm guessing you're in the US - hoping it's something they can adjust at the dealership...

Yep...sure does! I did take delivery during the first month the 2012's were available. Summer 2011. When I take mine in for its first scheduled service, I will inquire about enabling it as emdem said. hovsepdov, Thanks for taking the time to post the photo!

I looked in the 2012 manual and you seem to have fog light buttons. Before you had to pull the headlight switch for fog lights.
In the past for P1 models had front fog lights, the P2 models did not, having LEDs instead. With the 2012 model it seems as though they've moved to LEDs across the board?

Thank you guys for taking time for discussion about a seemingly small problem that is so frustrating to me.Is there someone in Germany we need to contact about it ? Because the local dealership did not find the answer for me. I'm sure this can be fixed but who and where.
