Resonator delete (Need the best advice)
I been doin research for about 3days now looking to do a resonator delete by adding a x-pipe. Been finding mix reviews about doin that mod voiding the warranty issues. Have any of you gone for service with that mod or is it even worth the risk of doin it.
Need advice please

Truth? You bought an E350 -The engine sounds funny to start with and has no throat or resonance. All you're going to do is make it louder, like an Accord with a catback. It's up to you, if you're looking for rumble - you should have bought a e550. I x-piped my C350 and it did nothing but cost money and decibels. The money could have been spent better elsewhere. Ps. it got picked off at trade-in time, and I got b*itched at for adding junk to a Mercedes. Again, it's your call.

See the thread in the C218 forum for the 2012+ 550 series:
After viewing some threads in the CLS63 section, I decided to try a resonator delete on my 2012 CLS550 4Matic. The consensus there (after a couple different variations were tried) was to use straight pipes instead of an x-pipe... the straight pipes would yield a deeper sound with no problems. With that in mind, I recently had the resonator cut off at a custom muffler shop and they welded two straight stainless pipes in its place (estimates were $150-200).
To me, this simple mod was a perfect solution to my exhaust needs. The sound on start-up is slightly louder and the cabin (with windows closed) has a nice 'rumble' during acceleration. At a steady cruise, there is really no noticeable difference from the stock setup... and I've never yet experienced any dreaded drone.
The quality of my sound file is the best I can do under the circumstances. You will hear a cold start, some idle and a few revs... edited to a total of 30-seconds (in MP3 format). I hope this will assist some members in their exhaust decision... I honestly feel no need to go any louder. At the least, this may be a starting point.

I have a cls 550 too, and I think the sound without a resonator is just about the same as mine.

Not to be disrespectful to the owner or poster, but it sounds like a fat Honda... In the E350, you'll have to mash the crap out of the pedal all day long to give it even a modest exhaust tone... Long story short, they bought the wrong car and are trying to compensate for the lack of horsepower (aka *****), and lack of a bigger a piston bore. It just sounds like crap. I know, I know... maybe they didn't want to spend the extra dollars to get the V8 with the real V8 sound, but throwing a $75 chunk of pipe on a V6 isn't going to bring that thrill... It's poserific and ricey - what it isn't, is Mercedes.
They could have had a new kick-*** V8 Camero for the 50k+ you spent on a V6.
Hey - it's just an opinion, that's all - I've had 3 MB 350 V6's, 1 w/an x-pipe... I buy'm just to flip'm - my last MB will be a 2014 CLS550 (no x-pipe)...

i don't disagree one bit. but i have a 17YO son and having the 550 would be a mistake. so i am looking for a little more throat. when he and his little bro get older then the big motors come back out!
