Who here has a squeaky pano roof?

Drove car the other day, pano roof squeaking like no other. Anyone heard this coming from their roof and successfully resolved it through the dealer or self repair?

get lost buddy...I already did and didn't see any complaints from an E -Coupe owner. Mostly complaints on older panos. I'm asking E Coupe owners. If you don't have anything productive to add, don't respond.

I have something productive to add. I have the same problem.
here was even the solution for this problem.
Dealer wont fix it ( as far as i know ) this is included in the Service number 3 ( cleaning and maintaining the roof) it happens because rubber is dried or too much dust in there.

My roof is fine, but my driver side window squeaks when I put it down. Every time I go to the dealer, it stops squeaking.

hahaha,
sometimes I think that I got all possible problems with this car.

My windows squeaks only when it's raining. Ang again, only driver side.

mine squeaks constantly, very annoying, especially when turning up a slope etc. i realize this car loves to squeak! pano squeaks, driver seat squeaks, brakes squeeeal (they said its normal), windscreen wipers squeak when wiping, and windows squeak when winding down when wet.

I had the same issue with my 2011. Driving the car through a parking garage would drive me nuts. The dealer tried to "tighten" up the roof liner but all they ended up doing was screwing up my sunroof so that it wouldn't open anymore. C'est la vie.

Ah only now realise you guys are not talking about squeaking when opening/closing,
but just when driving...

So now i know where THAT sound comes from, cos i thought it was the back seats.

on flat surface no problem, but like davinong says on slopes it's quite terrible.
(i have a feeling it's worse in low temps?)

And yes the breaks.. don't tell me this is normal? My previous (class C) had the exact same
problem & they never could get to fix it...

i always wondered where that sound came from! drives me mad and turn the music up just to block it out.
my driver window does the same when it goes down but i thought it was to do with the windows being tinted.

I bought a 2010 E550 coupe (fully maintained since new by MB of San Jose) with panoramic roof that had a lot of creaking and popping noises from the roof. After getting MB (Autohaus of Belmont, CA) to service and inspect it, they advised that it was a known problem (TSB has been issued) and would cost $1800 to fix as the car was 3 months out of warranty. They also wanted $200 to diagnose this 'known problem'.

I declined to have the work done and went home to look at it and found that the windshield was very loose. After reviewing the maintenance records, turns out that the windshield was replaced by MB (Smythe European of San Jose) a couple of years previously and they made a spectacularly poor job of it. The entire top part was not attached to the car at all, only the sides and bottom of the windshield were bonded. I could push the windshield forward so far I could get my fingers through the gap. I could have pushed the whole windshield one-handed completely out of the car with very little effort.

I called MB USA and expressed my concerns about safety of such a lousy installation and they just told me that as it was out of warranty and I was the second owner, they could do nothing.
I then called MB of San Jose and said the repair was substandard and dangerous, and they could not have been less interested. Basically, their standpoint was, 'it was repaired more than 12 months ago; if you want it doing again, it will be $1900 for the windshield and $1700 for the creaking roof.'

I then took the car to a local auto glass repair shop and they removed and reinstalled the same windshield with new glue for $125, which has completely eradicated all the roof squeaking and popping. Seems like the windshield is a structural rigidity component of the car, and when it is not properly bonded, the body flexes and causes squeaking of the panoramic roof.

Since then, I have carried out a major maintenance myself and found badly fitted maintenance parts for practically everything I inspected. E.g. wheel lug nuts torqued to over 200 ft-lb (needed to jump on a 36" breaker bar to remove them), incorrect transmission oil, brake fluid, coolant and engine oil levels, brake bleed valves massively over-tightened (caliper thread damaged), missing bolts from the skid pans under the engine, incorrect bolts in various places. The car looks like it was wrenched on by gorillas.

A quick takeaway from this is - Mercedes is out to gut you for every cent and will not back you up if there is an issue. The dealer maintenance is also no better than any back street shop and will cost a fortune. Learn to do it yourself or get a respected specialist to take care of maintenance.

My pano in my 2010 E550 squeaks/creaks badly as well. I was told it would be around $2000 to fix by Mercedes Benz Greenway in Houston. Maybe I'll try an auto glass shop as well

Well that is quite the over-generalization. There may be some poorly run dealerships out there but certainly not all of them. I and others here have had excellent experiences and treatment from our dealers. And these dealerships are privately owned businesses, not owned or run by Daimler or Mercedes Benz of USA.

Anyway, glad you got a good and inexpensive solution to your windshield and squeaky roof.

I have a 2012 e500 coupe Pano roof. I had cracking noises coming from my roof since pretty much day one. 2 years later my Service adviser told me that they do offer a fix for it. Took it in and got it fixed for free. Took a few days but they fixed it and it doesn't make the same noises that it did before.

Usually the noises were really loud when i would go in and out of driveways. the chassis would twist a little and the roof sounded like it was going to snap.

There is a fix out there. just letting you know.

+1. My roof has started to creak and pop again, although it is still a lot better than before.

Honestly, I am not sure but the car was in there for almost a week. He said they had to bring the whole headliner down and take off the glass so that they can get to the parts they need to replace or work on. ( i was just happy to get rid of the sounds).

I am going to go to the same dealer for service tomorrow actually. I will ask him and try to get back to you guys.

all i know is the popping sounds and creeking stopped but you still get that vibration when you're driving on a rough road at slower speeds around 25-40 mph

2010 E550.. Gone but never forgotton - E63 AMG..
I've got a 2010 E550 sedan and until this morning I've never had so much as a squeek from my pano.. However, this morning I had to back out of my driveway alittle unusually, because a certain jerk felt like blocking 1/3 of my driveway..
I backed out slightly tilted (left side of car lower than right side), the car flexed and I can hear the roof creaking, squeeking as I was backing out. It was also pretty damn cold today.. I took it around the block tonight and the sound was still present.. I'm annoyed to say the least.. Do you think the sound is now here to stay? Like I said, in 5 years not a single issue with the roof. Thanks for the input.

IMO, the problem is more prevalent in the winter (cold) months. Press on portions of the roof paneling and bams and see fi you can find a place that flexes and replicates the noise.

Just returned a C300 loaner that I needed for a week while my E550 Cab was in for warranty work. The C300 loaner had a pano roof and creaked like mad. Ruined what I thought was a nice car. My Cab has fewer creaks than the C300.

We had the squeaky window problem with our Jaguar XK. Problem solved by turning up the volume on the radio.
