E350 trunk opens

The trunk on my 2013 model opened on its own twice this past wheel while parked and locked.
Anyone have this problem or might know the cause?

Given it was the trunk only opening and the doors remaining locked with the alarm functioning probably means that the key fob tab for the boot has been hit! Whilst you have to hold the button down more to open the boot, nevertheless it happens. To my own annoyance I have done it a couple of times. I have even unlocked the car under the same circumstances. How ? keys in a pocket or jacket, would never have believed it could happen but believe me it has, a jacket pocket, a trouser pocket same issues.
The boot opening and not setting off the alarm is why I believe that is your issue. When the key is used to open the boot with the car in lock down, it bypasses the alarm purely for the boot space.
Whilst the alarm will reset if you have not opened a door, the same is not for the boot. When it happened to me I was glad the damn boot lid struts and springs did not cause the boot to open more than an inch.

Thanks so much for the reply. Sounds right but the first time I was on the second story of a building with underground parking and I do not think my remote would reach.
I saw something about a panel under the rear seat that could have a malfunction.

I had the same issue. My 2015 E-Class trunk opened by itself 4 times -- 3 times at home in a detached garage, with the key fob upstairs on a desktop; the 4th time it opened while the car was parked outside the building where I work. (I even got that one on the security video system.) I do not think it is that I hit the trunk button on the fob, as it was not even in my pocket or on my person 3 of the 4 times it opened.

I was sure I was in for a real treat, trying to work with a service advisor to troubleshoot this electronic gremlin.

Well, it wasn't bad at all. When I mentioned the situation to the service advisor, he said that they would check other service tickets they have worked, and will also check with other dealers on-line. He quickly came back to me and told me that they have had one other issue exactly like mine, and that car required replacement of its rear SAM (Signal Acquisition Module, IIRC). So, they took my car in and just replaced that module.

I just picked up my car last Saturday, so I'm not sure that this was the problem, but the dealer service advisor seems convinced. Work was done under warranty, and at least they did what they believed would solve the problem, rather than just giving me the dreaded "Cannot replicate issue" notice.

I hope OP still has warranty on his car as a rear SAM could be expensive. I had a different problem with my coupe but same solution. seatbelts not extending and not tightening. replaced rear SAM under warranty. dealer said would have cost me AU$3000 including labor, i just rolled my eyes.

goodluck and hope you fix your problem at minimal cost.

Yes. . . mine, too!

I picked up the car, with the new SAM, and so far, all is well. Time will tell.

Of course, since the work was under warranty, I have no idea how much it would have cost had it been out of warranty.

Can I get the name and number of your service advisor as mine won't do anything because there is nothing showing up on the service codes. They have had my car for three days now. Frustrating!
Thanks

Finally fixed. Went to a second dealer , Downtown LA Mercedes, who was aggressive enough to replace the SAM unit even though the codes didn't indicate a problem.
Hopefully the problem is in the past. So far so good though only 3 days.
