Help, speedometer is off by 15-18 miles (higher)
92 500e and the speedometer reads about 15 to 18 mikes higher.
How can I adjust it? My odometer & trip odometer are not working
Is these related to the speedometer?
The cluster light is dim so I may be taking it apart soon.
Has anyone seen or knows where to find red overlays for all 3 cluster Gage's?
I have seen some white ones on EBay but leaning towards red ones
Any leads will be appreciated!

You need to change the reduction gears on the speedo/odo cluster to match your tire size.
You just found your problem :P
The gears are calibrated for 195/65r15.

I recently had to recalibrate my speedometer after swapping from a 2.24 to 2.82 rear on my E420. Instead of fooling around with the speedo gears, I purchased one of these: http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd126.htm
It was very easy to install. Pulled the cluster, spliced into a 12v power supply, added a ground wire, added two wires (1 from wire for the speed sensor to the interface and 1 from the interface to the speedometer). I downloaded a the Speed Box (GPS speedometer app) on my iPhone and used it to calibrate the speedometer while driving.

A '92 500E speedometer would be calibrated for 225/55-16, not 195/65-15. There's about 3% or 1.7 MPH difference between those two sizes on a 500E.

That sounds like a pretty elegant solution to the issue of how to make the gear-driven cluster accurate. Well done!
