jump-starting question

Dear guys

We have a E240 (01 yr) model. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to "JUMP-START" the car? I heard the battery is located at the rear-seat. Any pic on the battery or comment would be great.

thx

Wasssup dude?

THere should be a small black plastic box in the engine bay that has a "+" imprinted on it. Flip open it and you will see a metal piece for clamping the positive (red) jump start cable onto it. The negaitve should be located onto any metal part on the engine as with any other car. i.e. you don't need to access the battery for jump starting.

hey dude,

Thx a lot. (I was asking about Jump-STARTING, just in case. As the battery seems to be not going very well when we were starting the car these few days. BTW, is there anyway we can check the battery?)

Sorry for not answering your PM. I don't use Messenger at all, as it slows down my pc very much.

BTW, I"ve been working for a notebook computer company during the last few weeks of holiday in North Point. The nice thing :p is it right next to the LEXUS shop. I've been seeing the NEW LS430 for weeks. Although, it is very much like the OLD MB (yeah, copy cat right), it still looks very NICE, especially the SC430, really stands out from the rest of the LEXUS.

What do you mean by checking the battery? There is a hidden function in the aircon unit (holding the "rest" or soemthing button I think???) that calls up a number of readings (remember?). I think there was one reading that shows the Voltage.

If the ex-owner had not changed the battery since new, it is probably due for a change now. Might be worth accessing the battery under the backseat to see if its expired. What ever you do, do not completely disconnect the battery i.e. stop the powe, as this resets the computer.

When I open it up, I can see a date saying 14/05/02. But the car was 01 model? How can the expire date be 02 year?

I also wanna see how much power (Amp) is left on the battery? Is it possible to see it? "There is a hidden function in the aircon unit (holding the "rest" or soemthing button I think???) that calls up a number of readings (remember?). " WHAT DO U MEAN?

Hahhahaha! I guess I don't promote where I am as much as a newbie here Hong Kong is where I am...along with quite a few others, I've recently discoverd.

George, depress and hold the "Rest" button on the Aircon. That should result in the temperature display changing, number on the left should just be the menu item number and the right side should be the measurement and you can navigate up and down by pressing the temp set buttons on the top left and right side........item 24 is the battery voltage. If you have problems, maybe I can show you how or just give me a call/email.

THX
(HEY, at least I know LOL alright ~_~)
(damn, he's making fun of me )
hahhahaa
thx for the info anyway

:p

BTW, there seems to be quite a lot of new BMW 5 on the road nowadays, see almost a few per day.
Even more with the New ES300 and RX300 Lexus. I guess they are quite attractive to local buyers with the price just below $300 000 (HK) for the Japan Import version.

Hey, went out looking at MB stuff tonight with another member and we had the idea of starting a local MB mod club (or site), do you know of any guys who would be interested????? (This is our market research, hee, hee)

Don't mention Lexus here again or you'll get banned, LOL. Yeah, many 5's around, the first batches must have arrived. Many only because stupid HK people think the BMW is better value when you get more useless options for a similar or a lower price than an W211 E and the pick up on the bimmer is better (but their mid range responsiveness is worst). IMO, altho' they are very unique looking, they are such ugly a$$ cars compared to the new E and the interior looks Japanese - no class for the $1/2 mill+
