1998 E320 Wagon
Rock and a hard place

1998 w210 e320 wagon 2wd ~200k

Just as I decided to sell her, she's decided to hate me. I can't turn the ignition key, at all. Freshly charged battery - nothing. Battery with back-up battery - nothing. Disconnect battery for a day, then re-connect - nothing. I'm afraid that it's the old go to MB stealership and drop 1500+ on the old ecu/key deal, but, honestly, she isn't worth it. She's not mint. Rust free, yes, but dings, etc. Thoughts?? Please any and all thoughts appreciated.

You did not say it clear, but sounds like no 2nd key?
Keys sell in 200's so it is not 1500, unless you have long towing in mind as dealers need to see the car before they hand you new key.

could it have something to do with the shift lockout. A few times my key would not turn because the car was not fully in park.

Only one key. Not fully in park? How should I check that?

If I do the EIS swap from a running car, what parts do I need and what years? Would it need to be a wagon? How hard would it be?

Swapping EIS from other car don't have good reviews.
I know one W210 owner who can't make his car running for 3 years due to faulty EIS. He is in Florida if that matters.
Why do you hesitate to buy another key?
