Cranks normal/Starts for 1 second then dies
Hi guys/gals!
2000 E320,RWD. 130K miles.
I have searched about this problem and found many different answers, but none worked for me. Before developing this issue, the car started running very poorly, like it was running on just a few cylinders and you could hear popping/backfiring through the exhaust. The codes found were multiple cylinders misfire and a tank vent solenoid circuit problem.
I have checked fuel pressure at the rail and I didn't have any. I went for the fuel pump. It started running after a few taps on it,but wouldn't hold fuel pressure. The tank was full and as soon as I've opened the gas cap, fuel started flowing out like there was too much pressure build up in the tank. I've replaced the fuel pump and filter and now I have normal pressure at the rail, but the car still starts and stalls. I have pulled a couple of spark plugs out and they are black and soaked in fuel. I have checked for spark and injector pulse. I have both! The car should start now.
I have read about the problem with the key. I have only one key,the newer style. The key opens doors/trunk and it's accepted by the ignition switch. It turns and cranks the car.
I wish I had the Star to be able to read the Mercedes specific error codes.
Any idea/suggestion would be appreciated.
Could the spark plugs be compromised and the engine flooded, now that I've been testing? Should I pull them all out and clean them? The car should start, now that I have fuel pressure and spark.
Thanks in advance!
