Problem with starting. Oh. And stopping.
long time lurker, I recently bought a 1999 E240 (Auto), and sadly, am already in need of advice!
Firstly, the brakes: I can bring the car to a stop, but then the brake pedal gets soft and begins sinking to the floor. If I don't maintain pressure and push it to the floor, the brakes creak and then release, and the car starts crawling forward. A mate with a W124 said this is most likely air in the brake lines, and I should just get it flushed. Does this sound right to you guys?
Secondly, over the last couple of days, the car has had issues starting - it won't even try to turn over. I've managed to get it started after a couple of minutes each time, after pumping the brakes or the accelerator.
Could the brake issue possibly be leading to the starting one?
The car has 101,000 km on it, and was last serviced in August at 98,000.
If I can provide any more information to help crowd-diagnose the issues let me know!
Cheers

A few of the stickies are mine. :-)
Flush brakes first and see if you get any air out; if no air comes out, you can chance test driving it but for myself I would immediately replace the master cylinder.
Starting issue should have nothing to do with the brakes. More like a bad connection or component. Time to start troubleshooting. Again, start with the stickies in the link above.
