Wanting to purchase a E420 or E430
Hi,
I am new to this forum and I am in the process of locating an E420 or possibly a E430. I was wanting to know what kinds of problems I should look for. I have set my budget at $14,000 and have located several 1997 E420's with 75,000 to 110,000 miles, within this price. All suggestions would be very helpful. THANKS!

MY2004 E320
None in particular
You will find hndreds of good points about these vehicles, such as Baddd Asssss Looks, 275HP stock, comfortable ride (I have the pneumatic seats and I DO travel interstate) but here is my negative observations about my E420:
- Sunroof rattles (there is a tsb to correct - $$$)
- Rear brake lamp holder (either side) may cause the "Check lamp" message.
- Transmission seal can leak and fluid can wick into ECU (not uncommon in both e420 and e430)
- CD-Changer may have to be reset often
- Around 100K, one or both Xenon's go out (cheap to replace now-a-days)
- Crappy remote - only works close quarters, specially if vehicle is tinted.
- Replacement key is Expensive - make sure you get at least a pair
regardless, its the best I have ever owned, and the most fun to drive!

TSB means Technical Service Bulletin. That's usually a bulletin the manufacturer post it for the dealer to repair a flaw.
