New to the board, buying an e-class
I am planning on buying an e-class within the next couple of weeks. I would like to get a 2001. Which engine is more reliable, the 4.3, or the 3.2? Does the 4matic system have a lot of problems/maintenance? Any known problems i should look for when i am shopping? Thanks for the help!

Buy a BMW its built much better and actualy runs nicer. I wish I had found this site before I purchased my 2000 E430. The motors arn;t the problem its the 10,000 other little things that go wrong with each and every one. Its also the fact that Mercedes took a good cue from Chrysler when it comes to recalls. They know theres a problem but if they just act like it doesn't exist they won't have to fix it and show a loss at the end of the year.

Have had my 01 E320 4matic since Oct 00. No major problems of any sort. Both engines you mentioned are very reliable and the 4 Matic system is great with zero problems. FYI, this E320 replaced a BMW and there is no comparison with the MB being far superior in maint costs, much fewer problems and far superior design and engineering.
