I drove up to the Detroit auto show today and the thing saved my butt 3 times! Michigan cops seem to leave their radar units on all the time which sure makes it easy. The Ohio cops wait until the last second and POW!

Here's mine. I also modified the remote display, so that different band mapped into difference LED color in the display. Really help, especially when you drive fast: quick glance, and you know whether it worth your attention (KA & Laser), or 50/50 chance of bogus (K & X)
Also manage to installed the Sirius & TV while I ripped my car aparted.

It really shouldn't make too much difference. Radar and Laser are both toward the IR portion of the EM spectrum and therefore are long wavelength radiation. The small holes in the ceramic material on the windshield should allow enough of the EM radiation through so that your V1 will detect without much problem. Ideally, you don't want anything to interfere with the sensor, but since there are no metallic materials in this case, you should be OK but not optimal.

Traffic laser is at 332 terahertz, in the non-visible part of the light spectrum, with a corresponding wavelength of 904 nanometers.
Traffic radar and laser aren't anywhere close to operating near the same frequencies and certainly don't have long wavelengths. Traffic laser operates at a much higher frequency and as such is completely line-of-sight. For intended performance of your detector, nothing metallic should block the antennas/IR detectors.

I had the caddy dealer wire my V1, to sit on my DTS dash, toward the
back, and it cost me about 225. Had to take dash off, etc, etc, they said.
Nice install tho. Wire comes from behind it and can’t be seen. When I get
my new 350, I’ll be having the dealer install it .. as I don’t fall into the
genius category. How much time do you think it will take them?
And, exactly where did you end up putting your detector?
On my C6 V1 mirror install, it was much easier. Just bought mirror bracket
and 4” cord and it was pretty simple. Both now turn off with the engine.
(The cigarette lighters don’t on my two GM cars.)
While off the subject, I love my V1’s. Once you get used to the arrows
telling you where the cop is, you won’t have anything else.

Look at post #8 to see a picture of the detector. It's just left of the rearview mirror. As for install time, I hope it doesn't take them too long. It took me longer to get the clips from Radio Shack than to do the install, and I wasn't even sure what I was doing
Foofighter - congrats on the new vehicle. Glad everything turned out OK.

I got lazy and didn't want to deal with running a wire along the headliner, etc... Instead, I took off the upper console (fairly easy) by the rear view mirror - I figured there would be plenty of power sources there for lights, sunroof, etc.
With the help of a multi-tester I found the "constant hot" and ground, which I tapped into. They were easy to find because they are the thickest gauge.I wanted "constant hot" because I was tired of having to reset the volume every time I started my car. This means that the detector is on at all times, but the power drawn is very little. I was a bit worried at first, but I haven't had a single problem...
Took about 1 hour. This is just another option...good luck!

Can you share some tips on how to open the upper console? DIY steps? Thanks in advance.

I knew it that there is an easy to do this. It's similar that way I do mine on my BMW E46, connected to the 12V "Hot" wire inside the upper console lighting infront of the rear view mirror.

1. remove the cover plate closest to the windshield first. You need a plastic wedge (don't use metal because it will scratch the plastic)
2. Then remove the plastic cover that surrounds the rear view mirror, which will expose 2 pressure clips inside (one on the right and one on the left)
3. Once you pressed the 2 clips, you can twist the entire console, which will then release the two pressure clips furthest away from the windshield.
4. Voila! the whole thing will come down. Be careful not to pinch or crimp the ribbon cables that are connected.
5. Reassembly is the exact opposite. Simply press the entire assembly back in place until you clearly hear that the 4 clips have engaged.
Good luck!!

My V1 is velcroed on the dash .. back close to the windshield.
I paid someone 125 to string the wire up from under the dash
but have no idea where, or how, he he connected it.
All I know is, I LOVE the V1 and it works perfect there. (In my
C6 it’s mounted under the mirror, using the mirror power.)

GL450 Upper Console Removal
Does anyone know or have photos on how to remove the upper center console on a GL450? I want to hardwire my radar detector, however, do not know how to remove the reading lights/upper console to access the 12V switched wire without breaking some plastic. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Has anyone tried to interface the display into our MFD? I saw this on youtube, but don't know if anyone have tried it?

I want to do the V1 built into the rear view mirror .. haven't had time to look for it though.
Not sure how it works w/ the MFD. Do you need to leave it on a certain page on the MFD all the time?

From the video it seems that it will take you to the V1 page as the V1 goes off, just don't know how safe is to install one of those modules and if it will work with our 07 W211s..
