Traffic laser is at 332 terahertz, in the non-visible part of the light spectrum, with a corresponding wavelength of 904 nanometers.
Traffic radar and laser aren't anywhere close to operating near the same frequencies and certainly don't have long wavelengths. Traffic laser operates at a much higher frequency and as such is completely line-of-sight. For intended performance of your detector, nothing metallic should block the antennas/IR detectors.

I had the caddy dealer wire my V1, to sit on my DTS dash, toward the
back, and it cost me about 225. Had to take dash off, etc, etc, they said.
Nice install tho. Wire comes from behind it and can’t be seen. When I get
my new 350, I’ll be having the dealer install it .. as I don’t fall into the
genius category. How much time do you think it will take them?
And, exactly where did you end up putting your detector?
On my C6 V1 mirror install, it was much easier. Just bought mirror bracket
and 4” cord and it was pretty simple. Both now turn off with the engine.
(The cigarette lighters don’t on my two GM cars.)
While off the subject, I love my V1’s. Once you get used to the arrows
telling you where the cop is, you won’t have anything else.

Foofighter - congrats on the new vehicle. Glad everything turned out OK.
With the help of a multi-tester I found the "constant hot" and ground, which I tapped into. They were easy to find because they are the thickest gauge.I wanted "constant hot" because I was tired of having to reset the volume every time I started my car. This means that the detector is on at all times, but the power drawn is very little. I was a bit worried at first, but I haven't had a single problem...
Took about 1 hour. This is just another option...good luck!

Can you share some tips on how to open the upper console? DIY steps? Thanks in advance.

1. remove the cover plate closest to the windshield first. You need a plastic wedge (don't use metal because it will scratch the plastic)
2. Then remove the plastic cover that surrounds the rear view mirror, which will expose 2 pressure clips inside (one on the right and one on the left)
3. Once you pressed the 2 clips, you can twist the entire console, which will then release the two pressure clips furthest away from the windshield.
4. Voila! the whole thing will come down. Be careful not to pinch or crimp the ribbon cables that are connected.
5. Reassembly is the exact opposite. Simply press the entire assembly back in place until you clearly hear that the 4 clips have engaged.
Good luck!!

Wondering how to get this.
I paid someone 125 to string the wire up from under the dash
but have no idea where, or how, he he connected it.
All I know is, I LOVE the V1 and it works perfect there. (In my
C6 it’s mounted under the mirror, using the mirror power.)

Not sure how it works w/ the MFD. Do you need to leave it on a certain page on the MFD all the time?

You're wonderful, man!!!
