Am getting this message more than 2 years and things with me so fine "i drove from that time more than 30K KM" - what the worse can happen ?
I checked my dealer here and he told me that even if the problem was from SBC control unit he will charge me for replacement as my car is not service contract has been finished 1 year ago , but i read that they have to change it even if there is no service contract as this part is under warrenty for 10 years , so who can help on this as i want to contact the right person from mercedes main agency by email or by phone to confirm what am saying . note:-my local dealer is gargash in dubai - uae - and am a second owner "thats mean i didnt bought it direct from the agency"

hello!
I had the same problem as you are describing.I went to one dealer and he was asking me to pay for change the unit.I went to another dealer they exchange it no question asked.
I was also second owner i did not by from certified MB dealer and never had before my car for service with them.
So find good dealer they will exchange it,because it is factory fault.
All the best

Service Brake

Thanks alls for the tips. I changed the brake light switch yesterday and the message had gone. This is the first issue that needs to be taking care of when you see the message: Service brake, Visit Workshop!!!

Ok I have the message on my in laws E320.

The Brake lights do work and this is a two wire brake switch.

Can my switch still be bad or should i be looking at the SBC unit?

Thanks.

Hi Heatlth Services
The brake lights still work even though the brake switch goes bad. This is because MB wanted us to change that switch after some 30.000 times stepped on the brake. Message Service brake, visit work shops will come one after that number to make sure us to replace that switch. If after the switch has been changed but still not solve the problem. Then you will need to look at the SBC unit. I think MB will have to replace that for you for free because the extended warranty for this SBC.

I replace the switch and no go. It was not the problem, then again I rather I be the one to replace the switch for $15 than the dealer for $150.

But at the same time every second pedal depression causes the pump to go on so i think it's the pump.

I fixed my "brake wear" sign today on 05 E500, I replaced the rear brake sensor because I replaced my brake pads last month and I didn't know I have to change the sensor. So I got one from my local auto parts supplier and changed it. It's very easy. You can also buy the sensor from the dealer. To fix it, just take of the right rear wheels and unplug the wire and put it on. You don't need to take off the calipers.

CLK 430 AMG
I have a 2000 AMG clk 430 and last night the ABS and BAS light came on, I went to go some place in my car today and now it won't shift out of park. So is it the brake switch then, and is that something i have to get from merceddes benz or can i go to a local parts store? This really makes me mad!

The brake switch came in this afternoon, and as OP mentioned, it only took a couple minutes to install.

Here are a couple pics for ya

FSS error

Picture of brake switch.

Picture of the brake switch installed.

Took a quick a drive around the block, and the error no longer appears.

the same only different, w211 2006 4M

Forgive me if I error, I am a newby.
Last week for no reason, while at highway speed and not engaging anything, my cruise stopped, my ABS, ESP and brake service light on the clock came on all at once. Following that I have found that the steering at slow speeds is quite a bit firmer then usual and the car won't shift from park unless I shut it off and restart it with my foot on the brake. The cruise does not work and the malfunction light only comes on after a new start and an attempt to engage the cruise.

My after market mechanic has changed the Brake switch but it didn't fix the problem.

I have changed from 16" to 17" tires and rims if this has anything to do with the problem.

Any ideas!!!
Thanks
Pete

E500 brake malfunction 'go to workshop'

I have a similar problem with my 2003 E500 but i get a 'red lit' message in dash saying stop go to workshop brake malfunction. the C2101 fault... 'SBC control unit' was done (replaced) at the dealership some months ago
pads are ok left frt sensor starting to hit with 50% pad left but this can't be the problem (replaced anyway) any ideas?

Why does MBUSA wants us to get this switch replaced every 30k miles?

I have 75k miles on the odometer now and I saw this message now 4 times so far. I think it is most likely the brake pads but I want to make sure I don't let the shop change them if I don't have to. My SA told me 12k miles ago that my brake pads are less than 10% which I didn't believe and it seems like I was right but now I think it could be the brake pads.

How can I make sure it's either the switch or the brake pads without getting ripped off by a money hungry SA/dealership?

I have this problem in my E55. My tail lights work but according to kinhoanguyen they will work even if it's bad ( which makes no sense to me but I can't really say otherwise ). It's a cheap enough repair so I'll just check it out.

Maybe it's time to replace the brake pads and the wear sensors.

Brake pads are about 90%, don't know about the wear sensors though. Isn't the message for the wear sensors different though?

Brake Wear Calculation
Remaining brake pad life is calculated using:
• Mileage since front brake pads replaced
• 50% front left brake pad wear sensor input
At 100% pad wear a warning is displayed.

I have a brake job appointment tomorrow. I will see what they say. Did they replace the sbc unit free of charge under the life long warranty?

Does the SBC recall apply to all 03-04 models or certain VIN range ? If my vehicle is out of the VIN range and have the Visit Workshop erorr does that mean I have to pay for mine ? Car has 23k miles.

Got my car back from the dealer. It has the pressure reservoir ( accumulator ) bad and is apparently not covered under the SBC warranty. They wanted $1500 to fix it. OUCH!

Same problem here. I switched out the brake switch but the error still appeared. I took it in to the stealership and it turned out to be the SBC unit. It's cover under the MBZ warranty.
