How to remove center speaker grill ?

2006 E-350(w211)

I have a really annoying rattle coming from the center speaker grill on my dash so I want to remove it to fix the noise, but I can't figure out how it comes off.

Can anyone help or does anyone have a link to a step by step guide or pictures?

Thanks!

You can either mention DTB P-B-68.10/53 for warranty repair or attempt DIY following DTB procedure. If you want a copy, PM your email address.

hatplus,

how did you get the speaker grille off? I started to try but did not want to break mine.

Are you asking for the 2007 model? It would be different from the early models (for the early one there was a good DIY post). Just pry off the cover with a plastic wedge, preferably starting from 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.

I am having this problem in my 2008 E350, is this something that will be repaired under warranty? Is it a problem with the speaker or is this just a defect in how the grill is mounted?

Warranty covers repair mention DTB there may be too much play in the center fill cover.

Thanks, I am due for service in under 1,000 miles so I will probably wait until then if I can stand it.

Make sure they don't just replace a perfectly working speaker but put this piece of felt in which will stop the rattling noise. MB of San Diego did exactly that to me back 2 years ago. I told them about the DTB, gave them the print out and they sold me or better my extended warranty company a new center speaker. The rattling was still there of course. I went to a different dealership and they put the felt in for me.

Helpful link

I found this link which does a good job of explaining how to remove the front grill. It is for a different model car but it works on the 2004 e320. The tabs are apparently in the exact same location.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm

If anyone figures out how to purchase a replacement front center speaker, please post something.

I was able to seal the speaker to the metal frame which reduced the rattling, but at high tones, the speaker still buzzes.
