SBC unit after 10 years
So, is it safe to say if the SBC makes it 10 years it's good to go for another 10? I prefer to leave "well enough alone" but if the software upgrade won't cause any trouble, I should go for it?

The software "upgrade" refered to in the previous posts in this thread is not really an upgrade. It's just resetting the counter that keeps track of brake pedal and/or SBC pump actuations. The original limit was 300,000 actuations. When that limit is reached, the red "service brake/visit workshop" message would appear and the braking system would go into emergency mode. Anyway, leaving well enough alone is probably your best bet...along with flushing the brake fluid every two years as recommended by MBZ.

Add me to the list of failed SBC, on my 211. Had the white BRAKE instrument cluster warning for about week. Thought it was pads, didn't give it much thought. Ordered pads and was gonna change at next chance. Then on Saturday, I got 4 miles from my house and BOOM, RED warning, no brakes. Or, very little braking, I should say. I live in a very hilly area and getting her home was hairy, to say the least. Did the E-Brake shuffle up and down some steep mountain roads. Pucker factor was strong...
Hooked up my SDS and sure enough, C249F OPERATING TIME OF COMPONENT A7/3 IS EXCEEDED (SBC HYDRAULIC UNIT) was the code.
Cleared the codes, let it sit overnight and started her up to move her out of the way into another part of the driveway. Car stops fine, but is back to white BRAKE error on the IC. Parked it, haven't started it since. SBC warranty was up in April, so no joy from the dealer when I went in to talk to them today. Ordered new SBC unit and will install next week.
It get's better. Had them run the VIN on my SL600 just to see when that SBC warranty was up. Wait for it..... last Friday.
Happy Happy Joy Joy.

LOL. You had some bad luck for sure...
My car has been the polar opposite of yours. First real major failure on the car since I've owned it. Bought it with 29K on the clock forever ago....
My Caddy CTS Wagon will never have SBC failure. Nor, ABC, nor EIEIEO!

same SBC issue.
2004 e320 4matic, 129k. Experienced SBC issue w/o prior warning; back up brake system is totally inadequate!!
Bought a SBC pump from mymercedesparts.com (not available new, only factor refurb.) for $833.75 USD, plus core charge ($153) and shipping to NYC which is less that the $1490 (plus shipping) price for a new one. Havent installed the part yet; waiting for my bootleg STAR system to arrive ($400).
will update the post. Thanks for the prior post and info

Quick follow up
Was able to change the SBC w/o Xentry DAS. Prior to removing the SBC, I disconnected both batteries. This is the guide I downloaded.
https://www.bosch-repair-service.com...eisung_EHB.pdf
After installing the SBC, I bled the brakes using a Motive pressure bleeder (used 2 liters of brake fluid). The dash lights/alerts did not turn off right away but drove the vehicle for 2 minutes and then parked; when I restarted the vehicle, the dash lights (red alert) were off and the vehicle returned to normal ( the tranny unlocked and the brakes worked as normal).
BTW I purchased an aftermarket Xentry DAS and after abit of tweaking (reinstalling the startkey codes), the system worked great.
Thanks for the info from previous posts; steered my efforts in the right direction :-)
Happy to be back on the road :-)

2002 Seville STS, EBCM (electronic brake control module) failed, looks similar to the inside of an SBC!

Any tried using this device, or heard of it used?

It appears to reset the SBC.
Very curious...
