Symptoms of worn Motor/Tranny Mounts?
Guys,
What would be the symptoms to look out for, if I assume I have worn motor/tranny mounts?
I know about the rough idle..but this is mainly in-gear idle roughness, not so much if I bump into Neutral.
My main reason of asking is..when on uneven roads/bumps above 15-20MPH, it feels like...and I will find this hard to explain...the motor is coming down to meet the car as it comes up on a large bump/uneven section...??
But here's the strange bit, it does it 3 times or so..like a ball in a jar?? (sorry..as I said hard to explain)..
If you hit a bump or the suspension travels a lot, lets say it goes/feels like "DHUG!"
This thing goes 'DHUG-DHUG-DHUG" in rapid succession.
I just changed the shocks but it has made no difference, if at all, it's gotten a wee bit worse!

The engine will run smooth not miss but be shaking in the cradle. This will smooth out as speed and seem normal. Bad mounts. You can feel the shaking under the hood with engine running and engine running. There will be no check engine light or codes. My mounts failed at 85,000 miles of grand mother driving. Your results may vary based on driving style.

That sounds like a possibly broken sway bar end link...that would explain the repeated rapid contact sound. I have a feeling if your engine was coming down to meet the subframe you would really know it lol. New shocks = stiffer shocks = more force transmitted to sway bar = slightly worse than before. If that isn't it, just get the thing on a lift and start wiggling stuff around until you find something is loose.

Bad motor mounts pretty much mean the engine will vibrate the cabin alot more than it should, transmission mounts equal same thing for the tranny, you feel it lurch the car when switching gears, etc.

Mercedes-Benzes: 2005 ML500, 2002 E320 4-Matic, 1993 300E, 1994 E320, AND 1999 C230 KOMPRESSOR
It could be the front lower ball joints, but check front suspension...pretty common on that car. But check the mounts also.
