Dealer's are just watching out for them selves. Most people notice something going wrong with the trans and run to a dealer for a service change. Then what happens is the trans gives out 1k or 2k later and the customer is running back to dealer for a new trans(just a scenario I've seen before at the dealer) We have never turned down a customer trying to do service especially preventative maintenance.

I personally believe that is the biggest "fact" that people use to confirm this myth.

Most high mileage cars only come in for a ATF change AFTER the owner notices a something.
Then everyone blames the fluid change, and the myth is "confirmed" in their minds.

Agreed. If a trans is on its way out new fluid or old wont help it.

Seems I was wrong.

While the MB and ZF transmission (From the 5 speed automatics forward) are very similar in technology, MB and ZF transmissions don't share any direct engineering.

I just wound up bringing it in for an oil change at the local quick lube that I have been using for years with out issue. I spoke to the owner of the shop he told me he could change all the fluids with no issues. Just bring him the filters I wanted to use. He suggested getting them from MB if it made me feel better. So that's the direct I will go in next time I bring it in for service.

I would read over the instructions for changing the fluid before having a quick lube place do it.

I changed my own TX fluid at home,, using MB filters AND fluid. There is an aftermarket fluid that will work but why do all the work to x reference, just use MB fluid for your transmission and it is a done deal.

I live in Central Jersey. My previous W211 has been serviced at Catena on and off. I have mixed experience with them. I had a defective Bridgestone tire one time but they told me that the front end bushings needed replacement for $1500! I ran away.
