Replace/install rear SAM unit

Have a 04 E320 Sedan and rear tail light stayed on constantly and drained battery, indy said it was a bad rear SAM.

Is this a DIY.
Anybody have pics/instructions on replace/install of unit?
Does unit need to be coded after install?

Thanks!

Whats your point----you said your indy thinks this and that---thats just like my wife who tells me she is always tired---how do you find out, well in your case, if you have the correct tools you can say for sure its a rear SAM so HTFDYK---you test first!!

Then with all SAM's they have to be coded to your car or the coding is taken from the old and put on the new---to do that you have to have the correct factory or equal diagnostic tools to do the job---therefore to answer your question DYHTFT

PS: If you ask------where is the rear SAM----have your wife take the car to the indy!!

You know, in searching for answers here I noticed someone else asking a similar question about the Sam unit and you giving basically the same rude *** answer. Just because I'm not a mechanic and not familiar with with items like SIGNAL ACQ. MODULES does not mean I'm inferior to you, nor does it mean I have no right to ask questions. I thought this was a site for people with knowledge of these vehicles to help those with less knowledge. But if it makes you feel better to berate someone with sincere motives trying to understand and gain new information about my car, then go ahead....*******!!!!! You sir, seem to be a very unhappy individual who can only gain self esteem and happiness by berating others and therefore, in your mind, elevating yourself. I can absolutely, positively, guarantee you would not have responded to me like that face to face, you would be the one hiding behind your wife's skirt!!!

AUtgr,

The answer to your question, "Is this a DIY?", is "No."

Regards.

Thank you bbirdwell. While researching replacing the Sam unit here (I do know that it's bad after taking it to my Indy mech and his running test on it and determining that the rear Sam was the culprit) I did however find info on others replacing the unit themselves just not enough info or pics for a novice to attempt. Thanks bbirdwell, I guess I'll take it back to him and pay to have him do the job.

If you have the Mercedes diagnostic software, it is a DIY. Without that software, you're at the mercy of the dealer or independents.

I have two purchases to make for Christmas, a Star C4 system in case I'm in your situation...and a UPD rear camber and toe adjuster kit for my W211. My requirement for the diagnostic software is that any system I purchase is a legally licensed system as my employer (and I) frown upon pirated software. It is grounds for termination where I work as we depend heavily upon our research and development and the resulting patents.

I hope everything works out for you. Please update for the rest of us.

Regards.

Yeah, I think my best bet is to let the pro with the tools handle this one. Really appreciate the help

Just be careful of Greeks offering gifts-----make sure the SAM part numbers are current and appropriate to the recipient car, else both will be back whining---How do I do that----use EPC

Educate me, Plutoe. What is EPC? I hope to have my Mercedes diagnostic system before Christmas and then my wife is going to complain that I'm spending more time with my car than with her.

Help a brother out here, okay? :-)
