Unique battery problem - I think
So, yesterday leaving for the hospital, the E gives me the “convenience features disabled” message, and a slow crank, but it does start. I leave it, as it is a 3rd car and go.
Today it is completely dead, no lights, nothing. Ok, I will now replace both batteries.
Trunk won’t open, as it is totally dead. key in trunk, the handle is non responsive also, so now no getting in trunk. This rocks.
My hope is to replace aux battery today and cross my fingers that it gives me enough juice to open the trunk.
ideas?

Out Of Control!!
You really don't have many options until you get a battery in the car with enough cranking amps to start the car---what amazes me is that your mechanical key won't work as it is your situation that the mechanical key should work!!
The main issue--what circuit drained the battery--that can't be accomplished with a handy dandy OBD---you will need someone with good bus scanning software to tell who's awake when they should be asleep!!

update - I got into the trunk! Hooked up the charger to the battery and now waiting on some response. though, I suspect my charger is no good now also. Lent it to the neighbor and I think they fried it. And after 20 min hooked up in the start car setting, still no response from the old E.
Aux battery is the original - 10/03!

All good now, main battery replaced last night, brought her right back to life.
Previous owner did not believe in washing the car, the trunk release was caked with dirt, hence the reason it would not open. After some persuasion, open sesame!
