Bra to protect front? HELP!

I'm driving about 400 miles in a couple weeks. Do they make bras to protect the hood from scatches from rocks and gravel? Any suggestions?

There are two major brands available. Usually, only one or the other is available in an area. They both use the same 3-M material. The difference is in the way the cut the pattern. Both, of course, claim to be the best.

The two companies are Stongard and Invinca-shield. Both have sites on the web. You can find a local dealer from the web site.

I had the Stongard put on my black E-500. It is not ugly and has sure saved the front of my car from rock chips. One problem with the swooped hood on the E is that some small rocks can hit higher than the plastic covers.

I paid in the neighborhood of $500. for the hood and headlight protection.

Thanks! Is one more recommended by consumers than the other?

Yes...I had mine installed at a Stongard dealer. It is warranted and they will replace the product and repair any damage done by a rock. The headlight protectors are a good deal as they will pay to replace the unit if it gets broken. I understand the xenon units cost about $700. so it would be good insurance. The headlight protection was about $85. as I recall.

I would not recommend doing it yourself unless you are really into working with large sticky pieces of plastic.

As to which one is best....I think what really matters is the installer that puts it on.

My car is obsidian black so it shows more than any other color would. I was very concerned but it was ok. It can hardly be detected on any of the silvers.

I will have it installed on my replacement car when I get it next week.

I ordered the old fasion kind from Colgan and love it. I only use it on trips and it does a great job. Here's a couple of pics.

Sorry STKLAW

But that bra look fugly. I think it pays to spend a little more and get the clear protection if you need it.

I'm not really into the way these things look since I only use them occassionally on trips. I just wanted the protection without something permanant on the car.

I didn't have time to reduce this so it may not post...or it may post and take up the whole page:p

You really cant see the clear material until you are right on top and then it is just a line. It covers the hood from just behind the Star and across above the lights. The bumpers are covered also. The mirrors are also protected.

No, that must just be the light. That was the only picture of the hood with the Stongard protection that I had that would fit.

go to your dealer and ask for autobahnd. I had mine installed front and back for $750. I would recommand to do the back, just in case some people hit you from behind.

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to put that 3M material on the entire car to protect the entire paint. I'm sure that would cost a whole bunch of money but that wold stop small dings and scratches. Also swirl marks and salt on the road.

What is this product. How would it help you if you are hit by another car?

The product we are talking about protects your hood from rock chips...not accidents.

I had a Colgan Bra for my E320 but sent it back. Colgan had a problem with the bra fluttering over the inner lights and redesigned the bra so it wouldn't flutter. They sent me one of the redesigened ones but it fluttered at 70mph. I sent it back and talked with them for 2 months to see what could be done to stop the flutter. They didn't seem to care enough to get around to try to fix the problem. I ended up asking for a refund which they did.

You can get the colgen bra from a lot of internet dealers or maybe from colgen direct. Just do a search on the net. I forgot where I got min. I had the flapping problem but I just twisted the straps inside the hood before I hooked them in order to make them real tight and it stopped flapping. I really like the protection for road trips.
