Page 264 of the manual pictures the dipstick for the gas-powered cars on the right side (passenger side) of the engine at the back. But on my car (2016 E350 gas) , the dipstick appears to be on the left side (driver's side) of the engine (identical to the diesel picture).

Silly question, but I think the photos for the diesel and gas versions are transposed, right?

I've pulled the stick and performed an oil check, and it definitely appears to be motor oil on the stick... on the Driver's side of the engine.

^^ Interesting... as far as i can recall, oil dip stick on the 2014 w212 is on driver side (imagine it would be the same for 2016) - so yes, seems opposite of what's shown in manual - opposite also of what's shown in online interactive manual for w212 (Owner's Manual > Maintenance and care > Engine compartment > Engine oil > Checking the oil level using the oil dipstick).

Going off recollection as it's wife's car but if correct, interesting find. Now i'm curious so will check this out when @ home.

The same typo is in my 2012 manual. The manual, on page 309, shows the oil dipstick on the rear passenger side, but it is on the rear driver side on my E550. You might be correct that the images or descriptions are transposed between the diesel and gasoline versions of the engine. Regardless, you did check the oil level :-)
