///AMG sport package does get AMG badge FROM the factory, says Daimler AG.

I really do not understand the stressing over badging issues. When you open the hood either there is a AMG engine that is signed or there isn't. The rest is just marketing that has nothing to do with the way the car drives. The more capable the car is with less attention attracting flair the better. All of these badges create detailing problems. It does not bother me to see a car that is over badged it has no effect on the way my car drives, or sits in traffic, after all I am no faster than the vehicle in front of me riding the brakes and driving ten mph below the speed limit. At the end of the day restrain rules.

My wheels look good but I'd rather they didn't say AMG on them. I think those letters should of been reserved for models that came with hand assembled engines with a signature. Ditto for BMW, Audi and Lexus.
But that's just the opinion of a lowly E-350 guy.

I actually can't stand how AMG, M, S, F (Lexus) are all offered as "appearance packages" on the run of the mill lease spec V6 models now.

However this badge debate doesn't cause me to lose sleep... Agreed that it's all marketing

How many non car people really know what AMG is ? I don't think I would bag my wheels because of the little stamp on them that only the guy(me) washing the car can see. As for the little spoiler it is silly but maybe those side skirts catch little rocks and prevent chips. I had to make two big compromises to get the motor I wanted, a sedan instead of a wagon and AMG package instead of luxury package, really like the car though.

Most non car people see the hood ornament and make stereotype assumptions. Seeing "AMG" on the wheels, or anywhere means nothing to 99 out of 100 people.
A co worker saw the AMG wheels on my E-350 and thought it was a legitimate AMG monster... Insert face palm here.
I personally think MB should have never whored out the AMG name, ditto for BMW, and Audi.

The only AMG badge on my e550 is the little stamp on the wheel. I don't know if the wheels are used on AMG'S any way because the are 18's. If I purchased the AMG wagon I would strip the lettering off and have it look like the dog hauler and grocery getter. I really like the car ,no rattles feels real solid, and gas mileage is good if you can keep it moving.

NOT AN ///AMG
on my E550 I have options:
772 AMG styling package
791 18" AMG spoke wheels
951 Sport Package. . . still DOES NOT make it an AMG.

The original meaning of AMG is only the engine AND NOTHING ELSE. In my opinion it is perfectly fine to show the AMG on the wheels and have other AMG appearance parts on the car but don't you dare glue the AMG badge on your trunk lid if you don't have the AMG engine as that is what it means.

My take on the situation is that most guys that know what a AMG actually is would spot a badged up car. So who are you going to impress? The more interesting thing to do would be to de-badge. Once the motor starts it is hard to disguise.

In a sense I think it's like comparing GT to Shelby to Cobra since there is now not only AMG but it's AMG, AMG S, Edition 507, and AMG Black series.
And also why is everyone arguing? AMG cars only come badged from the factory. Maybe some AMG factories put their AMG badge on regular Benz? Oh WAIT, There is only ONE AMG FACTORY! Which means the OP's "AMG" can't be real since AMGs only cone from 1 city in the whole word, irregardless of the market being American or Asian. (Although the AMG SUV's come from USA)
So maybe in Taiwan the MB factory(not an AMG factory) produces MB cars and the dealers add the badge, but a REAL AMG CARS can only come from 1 factory in the whole world, just like AMG SUV's come from one factory in the world.
If you really believe your car came from the factory with the AMG badge, why not register it on the AMG private lounge? If your country labels it a AMG from the factory, the AMG Private Lounge will honor it and allow you in if AMG approved it. Try and log on and enter your VIN and see what it tells you.

IMO the OP can do whatever he wishes and makes him happy. It is his car after all and from what I gather it is very tastefully modded. The fact remains that the majority of the general population has no idea what an AMG is or isn't. True AMG enthusiasts generally accept that short of a hand "build by" badge on the engine, the car is not an AMG. This same group also can look at exhaust tips, calipers and other give aways on an MB to know if it is a true AMG or not. In between the two extremes is a small group of people that just might be impressed by a non-AMG car that has an AMG badge.
I have been thinking about doing the same on my SL. who gives a crap if it has an AMG badge on it? the people that know will realize the car is an AMG without the badge, others have no idea WTF an AMG is anyway. I did not put the Renntech badge on my SL, maybe I should pull the AMG badge as well. Maybe totally de-badged is the way to go. More people just might be willing to give me a go if I do.

First things first, I just called my Doctor's office for a prescription of Ambien.
What do you think this part of the letter means:
"applied to all AMG models" Well sure that makes sense. AMG models are 55, 63, 65, etc. So an E350 with the AMG apperance package is not an AMG model.
By the way, I have an ML500 with the AMG appearance package, but the only thing that has AMG on it are the wheels because they are AMG wheels. There are no misleading AMG badges of the back on the vehicle.

This thread is still going? It could have been summed up in one post. No AMG engine, no plaque of who built your engine, no badge. Mercedes does not put AMG badges on cars that are not AMG's. If you come to the AMG lounge with your VIN, you will only get access with a AMG VIN. Done. Unbelievable this is still debated.
Can we nuke this thread now?

An AMG car only has resemblance of an E, S, C, SL etc but in actual fact it is a totally different car.
Should you add the AMG badge to your car? Certainly, if it makes you feel better.
