Problems with Enter and Drive keyless system
My 2015 e550 has recently developed random clicking/ticking sounds emanating from the rear of the cabin, it is not the sound of door locks. This weekend it also started to randomly and frequently start to run through the locking procedure, re lock the locked doors, activate the headlights and beep. I popped out the plug in the keyhole inserted the key. This has stopped the random locking problem but the clicking/ticking sound remains. I was lucky that I was not traveling and at home because the random locking (as if I had pushed the lock button on the remote) could have gone on the whole time.

2014 E350 also restored: 1969 Camaro convertible SS 1957 Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop
That is what the dealer will also tell you to do. When my key would not be recognized I used the other key and no problem I have since started reusing my original key and now there is no problem so far

Removing the keyless go button and inserting the key in the ignition resolved the unwanted random re locking. The faint clicking/ticking sounds in the cabin still remain . I think I read another post here about the sound but can not find it.

These cars are very noisy and busy all of the time with flaps moving, pumps operating, bolsters inflating, etc. both inside and out. Are you sure those are not just normal noises you hear? I never use the start button. It is sitting in my center console. I prefer it that way.

And then did you try opening the driver door? Once you open the driver door the dashboard lights will dim out and all systems should shut off I believe. Try that if you haven't attempted this yet.

Opening the door does shut the dash lights ect off and stop the random clicking noises.

Listen by the rear sunshade motor and sunshade switch on the dash. Operate it a couple of times to make sure the motor is operating properly and not hanging up. -worth a shot-

It was on that side in my W211 E500. I am not sure about the location in the W212, but it is a possibility. I had issues in my 211 with the operation of that old designed shade. It would sitck or not operate and make that clicking sound and do nothing. There also was an audible sound in the dash when I pushed the shade button. So, two noises; one up front and one in back as you have described.
