Anyone Tune Bluetec?

I would be all over a tune if I had a diesel! The last ford F350 and my buddies Cummins are night and day after we put them on. I personally saw a significant increase in fuel economy on my truck, as did my friend on his. (If I stayed out of the gas pedal). Ironically I was thinking about a tuned blue last night when my insomnia kicked in

1) will the dealer be able to tell and will it void warranty?
2) if tune improves mpg and performance then why didn't the factory do it and have a faster and more efficient car which = more sales?

You can get this one, and it's cheaper:

You have to take it off every time you go to your dealership for service. It takes about 10 minutes.

1.) Remove the tune before bringing it back.
2.) Primarily due to evolving emission standards. Low end torque is reduced to eliminate the "black smoke" that can go hand in hand when you stomp on the pedal. Also at some levels of tuning, monitoring EGT's (Exhaust temperature), Oil/Coolant temps, etc are also important. Also, less power is nicer to the rest of the drivetrain.

The one thing I have yet to find is an american based tuner who can do an ECU tune that disables the EGR/DPF. I know in europe they will remove the DPF and reweld it closed with the stuff cleaned out.
With proper tuning and filtering or even methanol injection the DPF isnt necessary from what i have read.

Do you have emission checks where you live?

Yeah we do, but its visual only/look for codes for diesel not sniffer. I would just like to make sure the car is less likely to have any issues down the road and it seems often those systems are the ones that cause failures

I've always found the irony in Diesel emissions...... The systems themselves cause a far greater amount of fuel consumption.... I jumped from 16 mpg to 20-22 mpg at 70mph in my lifted f350 on 35" tires when I did a 4" turbo back exhaust with Cat delete and a mildly hot canned SCT tune. A friend went from 17 up to the 25-26mpg range on his Cummins by deleting the EGR and DPF.... slightly lower but still noticeable results in a 6.7 new model f350.... I'm sure you could do the physical deletes and either gut the cats or just leave them in place + add a tune and make your engine remarkably more efficient! I look forward to hearing the outcome! If they made a diesel 4matic that was available in the states I most likely would have bought it. The two places I live make AWD a must.

They didnt? I thought when I was looking I saw some. But you are probably right. The W212 is super common around here but I have yet to see one other Bluetec and I drove to Arkansas from San Diego to buy it

Are there any potential effects that can harm the engine with these tunings? I'm primarily interested in the fuel economy, although I won't stick my nose up to the additional power.
That said, I want my engine to last a long time.. and I don't want to clog the DPF or guck up the swirl motor anymore than it gets by design.

only way to save warranty is by having a second ecu, nothing really to worry about with a standard street canned tune
