Airbag recall
That's a lot of airbags: https://www.cars.com/articles/merced...1420683409110/ I'm curious to see which cars aren't impacted from the model and years listed.

Just thinking this may be a wonderful opportunity to swap out the steering wheel to a custom wheel or at least swap out the trim to rid myself of that boring / squeaky black plastic "Airbag" trim piece... with Merc potentially picking up most (all?) of the labor to get at the airbag, why not?! Fingers crossed.

2008 E350 4Matic, 2011 E350 4matic
Someone else posted the list. Looks like 2010-2011 E350's, E550's and E63's.

I suppose some new nicknames might be in order. Explode-o-matic? Or Death-o-matic?
So far MB says no one has been killed yet by a defective one, but with a recall this massive, it'll probably take a while for them to have replacement parts.

One of the industry news feeds I get at work showed E-Class through 2014 as potentially affected. The manufacturer of the assembly (Continental Automotive) says it will be quite a while before they have enough parts for all of the recall repairs to be completed.
Capacity is an industry-wide issue -- the manufacturers who made the recalled parts/assemblies do not have enough capacity to continue to fill orders for parts for new cars and to produce for the recalls as well. Not a good place for consumers. . .

Regarding Continental AG's airbags recall, so far I've seen only 2008-9 C and GLK effected. I've seen nothing for 2014 Es yet. Keep in mind that Takata's airbags are deployed in many more cars worldwide than Continental's. IMHO, people should not be freaking out (unless one holds stock in those two companies that is).

I'm guessing it'll be awhile before this is an official recall where as MB contacts us? I don't see it on the MBUSA site and to be honest that site seems to never be updated properly in regards to my VIN.

Kind of a conflict here. You want it replaced quick as possible, but you also want to make sure you get a good airbag. As opposed to one that has been rushed through production, off to the dealership and then slapped on.
Incidentally, 2015 was the highest ever for new car sales in US. All those airbags have to come from somewhere, in addition to cars being made now.
Drive carefully, don't text or use cellphone or even take yours eyes off the road.

Up until now almost all articles I saw were showing MY2010-2011 E-class. That doesn't appear to be the case any longer. I was also surprised to read that passenger and side bag could be recalled also. What a task.

Right, that's just a range. This is a more specific list from another article on the same date:
Note how it starts with 2005 C class vehicles and ends with 2014 SLS class cars.
I'm more inclined to believe this list because I could this adding up to 704k vehicles. If you include the entire range of all vehicles, it would be way over 704k.
Affected Mercedes-Benz vehicles:

Here's a link to a chart of Mercedes US sales, the bulk of their sales are probably the classes mentioned:
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/10...sa-canada.html
They were basically selling 225k cars in 2005 up to 372k cars in 2014 in the US.

It keeps getting worse, they've now expanded the recall and have added more cars to the list.

I got my notice like last week, they just told me to do nothing until they come up with a solution, at which point they'll send me another letter to tell me to go to the dealer to get all the work done for free.
