Survey of 2017 E300

Hi

I am interested in buying a 2017 E300 with no autonomous everything. I just don't trust all that. I want to hear from people that own E300 what problem they experience.

Thanks

Alan

All the autonomous stuff is state of the art, as good if not better than anything on the market. Is it perfect, no, but as good as it gets. Distronic is fantastic, other parts can be annoying. Fortunately you can turn the annoying parts off when you dont need them. On long highway drives the car virtually drives itself, all you need to do is keep your hands on the steering wheel. Though I have the previous version, I use it all the time. It is particularly excellent on highway stop and go traffic.

2024 GLE 53 AMG Coupe
I've had my E300 for exactly one month so far and this is what I noticed. I have a P1 car with the 19 inch AMG wheels so I don't have all the autonomous stuff.

Parking Pilot (PP) isn't all that cracked up to be. Mine does not find perpendicular parking spots as much as I think it should. Also when it does and when it tries to park, it will pull the car too far froward and it will scrap the chrome thing on the bottom bumper. PP does not use lines when parking, it uses the cars between the spot it finds (I did a parallel parking job with PP and it put my car over the line because the two cars it used to sense my spot weren't parked neatly in their spots).

With the 19 inch AMG wheels, the car does have a lot of road noise when driving at highway speeds (65+ MPH). I usually have the music on so this doesn't bother me much. After driving for a while, I started noticing a rattling noise coming from somewhere in the front of the car, I need to take it to the dealership to get addressed.

The Command system isn't hard to use and I personally think its easy (subjective). I have noticed the navi is a bit laggy and it has been annoying. It would tell me to get of on exits just to get right back on the highway which is really annoying and it used to tell me to get off at tolls instead of doing the digital toll (Florida Sun Pass, E-Pass, etc.) but luckily I discovered the setting so it would stop telling me to take the cash tolls. It lags sometimes when trying to put in addresses and the voice command isn't always accurate. Also when typing in POIs it doesn't find them all.

I used to have remote start issues but they seemed to go away recently (I guess MB updated the Mercedes Me app). I haven't tried the valet protect since they made updates to Mercedes Me but it didn't work when I tried it pre update.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my E300 and I think it is one good looking car. But they all have their quirks. These are some of the "issues" I noticed on mine so far. If you are in the States, then I suggest getting P1 at the very least because it comes with the Burmeister speakers which are amazing, parking sensors/rear view camera and blind spot assist which are helpful for backing up and avoiding bumps with other objects and cars and so on.

One more thing, with the blind spot assist and the parking sensor warnings, the tones they make are too soft for me and I feel like I can barely hear them even though I have them set to the highest level (and I'm only 23).

I took delivery of '17 E300 2 weeks ago...Luxury, P3, additional 12.3, and a few other options. Everything works as advertised...Only issue is original orientation w/ new features and less than clear Operator Manual. Just need to take your time. Oh, lest I forget---if you 'special order', be patient.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I am not going to special order. I just want the very basic Luxury ( not sport with 18 wheel) model. I absolutely do not want any autonomous, self parking. I don't mind warning, but I do not want any interference by the car. So how well it track the lane, how well it self park etc. is not my concern.

Basically I want the most basic model with AWD.

I am more interested in anything gone wrong with the car. It is very well known that the 14-16 C300 is nothing but problem with their electrical system. Even the tow driver even point out this particular model years. E300 is too new to have any survey in Consumer Reports, so I am doing survey myself here!!

Thanks

Luxury model may be hard to come by ... may take some special efforts for your dealer to locate one acceptable to you.... good luck

If I have to wait, I can. It is very important for me to get the 17" rim because I want the car to be quiet and cushy ride. I am too old to be sporty. I know what you mean it's harder to get, I had to call around to get the smaller rim for my 2014 ML350 at the time. They all came with the big 18" rim. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy the quiet drive on the ML. Noise really bothers me, I can live with less on everything else. I even change the tires of my 2003 E320 from 225/55/16 to 225/60/16 to get quieter and cushier ride.

I really think that you should test drive an E300 with the 18's. I'm coming off a C350 with 18's and low profile tires and the E300 with standard 18's is remarkably different in comfort and noise. The ride is silky smooth and very quiet. I wouldn't let the 18's cause you any concern.

The E300 has good torque in the low ends good for city driving but not in the high ends while above 70, so it hustles to gain speed at high speeds. The radio is takes a long time to get used to and learn and can be distracting at times since you have to look to see where the presets are and cant dial phone numbers like on the old dial pad. The radio sometimes freezes if your using android auto. There is a slight rattle in the front door area which was discussed earlier in the posts. The major disadvantage for this car for me is the smaller interior compared to last generation. Smaller front and back windows, the interior feels tighter. the rear seats and leg room are more cramped compared to the previous year. The 18inch rims have a very big sidewall, 55 I believe not to sure. gives off a quiet ride but for a quieter ride you need none run flats! ive also had problems with the garage opener, which a fix is out, the windshield wipers that chatter and greasy interior windows that fogged up and had to be cleaned out to get it fixed. The autonomous driving feature is really great if you are doing alot of highway driving or a MUST if you spend a lot of time in stop and go traffic!!!! it is a perfect system for that.

I have had my E300 P2 Sport with 19 inch wheels for about three months. I really love it. The engine has a ton of torque around town and it is acceptable on the highway. The interior is spectacular and the build quality is excellent. I do find Comand to be needlessly complex, but I am getting used to it. And there is some tire noise with the 19 inch run flats. Overall, an excellent car, and a really great dealer experience so far...

Blind spot assist and pre-safe are on all E300 versions. I don't think they can be turned off (why would you want to). So other than engine eco stop/start, which always defaults to on, you can either turn off or just not use other autonomous features. Obviously the number of those features is dependent on which premium package you select, but to my knowledge they are all driver controlled.

My wife and I drive up to Los Angeles at least once a month and autonomous driving would be a blessing on the drive home late at night as most of it is freeway. Trouble is I'd almost be tempted to fall asleep... would be nice when cars get to that level of autonomous control. I still like to drive but there are times when it would be nice to just relax and let the car do the work.

I've had my 2017 E300 with P3 package for a month and a half. The only issue I have had is initially the Connect was not connecting.. toanything. I strongly suspect the software install at the port actually removes the several features DOT has not approved (fully intelligent headlights, remote park via smartphone, etc.), and contains a glitch that deletes something used by Connect. The lack of a working Connect affects many other features of the car e.g., Navigation, Internet, MB apps, and SOS. It took 3 trips to the dealer and a complete software wipe and reload to get Connect working.
