Advice for Purchasing Used G55 AMG
Hey guys,
Any G Wagon owners here?
I'm looking into possibly getting a 2008-2011 G55, how are they in general? Any particular known maintenance / reliability issues?
When I'm looking for one, any thing specifically I should turn my attention to determine whether it's perhaps a bad apple or not? I'm sure every range of models have known issues like my C63's headbolts, nothing is perfect.
(sorry if you have already seen this post, been cross posting on other forums)
Thanks again!
Gord

They are great, suspension is sh@!t, as for maintenance check the engine mounts, differentials (engage them, make sure they work, because most likely these have never been activated in the whole life of the car) electrical bugs are a pita (as with any MB).
Change the suspension to OLD MAN EMU, give it a much suppler ride, and a 2' lift which looks great.
The M113k engine is a reliable and you'll get in an MB... I know about the headbolts, happened to me, no known issues with the M113k, other than normal wear issues, like SC chirping, etc...

I just checked out about 15 before buying at 2011 g55. Here is what i found hope it helps.
The main things that i saw wrong with almost ever one were.
1) broken motor mounts
2) broken transmission mount
3) front wheel hub seals shot an leaking
I suggest taking the truck to a independent repair place to get it checked out.
Get the VIN and get check with MB directly to get the service record. There is a TON more info on there than a carfax.
Sunroofs & windows seem to be a problem noted by many on here but I didnt see any issues on any of the Gs that I looked at.
I also looked for one that has the minimum "upgrades" get as much stock as I can. Just dont trust other people cutting corners.
Good Luck! they are amazing trucks!
