When should we expect 2012 X164 clearance for the x166
My family loves our 2008 GL450. This is the last year of warranty for us and plan to trade it in for a new 2012 GL450 or possibly the diesel. I hope MBUSA does a big clearance promotion to make way for the x166. When do you think that will be? What kind of a discount you think it might be? I can't find anything else on the market that we'd rather drive (we have 4 kids).

You may see deals on the petrol models, but diesels will continue to be in high demand/short supply and unlikely to be discounted much.

When will there be big 'sales' on X164 GLs? Answer: when they stop selling well after the new X166 arrives at the showrooms. In reality, probably never.

i got 10K off our 2012 a few months back - so i would expect closer to 15k for any leftovers - doubt it on the bluetec models though - well at least in CA.

I bought mine at the end of 2008 when the world was supposedly coming to an end and all SUVs had been discounted because of $5.00 gasoline. I got my $62k MSRP car for $47k. That's the kind of deal I'm hoping again for my replacement. I'm happy with the gasoline version. On a per capita basis, the fuel economy isn't bad at all. I think most folks have been buying 2012s for an average of $7-8k off. less of a discount for diesel (only about $3-4k)

2011 GL450, '06 R500 traded, '08 ML350 sold
baldmike73 and ddcha, thank you both for your input. The reason I am asking is because I have found a 2011 GL450 with very low miles and CPO that I like because it has P2 and all options that interest me. The downside is that they are asking too much for it, almost $67K ... I feel that I can get in a 2012 off the lot with this price and based on what you guys are saying I am correct.
Regarding any additional discounts for 2012 models after the 2013s come out, it is simply based on supply and demand. If a dealer has a lot of left over 2012s then they will discount.

I think the key time to pick one up is July-Sept. If you wait beyond Sept then then the selection might be too little. I am hopeful that a lightly optioned or base model GL450 can be picked up for under 50k. I negotiated a deal for a leftover E350 base model in August a few years ago and got 15k off pretty easily.

Hey guys, please update this thread if you get to close a deal with a great discount on a 2012 gl350. Hopefully we could follow your lead, maybe it would also help sweeten your deal if you'll tell your salesman we are waiting for great discounts on the current model. I have been looking for a deal for the last 3 mos, but still no luck so far...

Why a sudden change of heart? What's the difference between now and a year ago when you had a "sweet deal" of your own? Isnt it the chances of getting one now is higher considering the MY2013 is just around the corner? Please elaborate, Im just curious.. Ty.

It's a simple rule of supply/demand. You're right - chances higher, but possibilities - the same. MB do not produce enough BlueTec's for this market ( I don't know why ). My dealer told me that Chinese buyers ready to pay MSRP plus $5K to get this truck brand new. I wish you luck to find one with as much discount as you'd like. It all depends on factory cash back to the dealers. Up to now - Bluetec never had any special programs...only loyalty and USAA ( if you eligible )

Don't bank on incentives and rebates on 2012 GL models. I played the same waiting game for 2 years with no results.
Last month I purchased a 2012 GL350 with a MSRP of $73,170 and purchased the vehicle for $62,800. I believed this to be an awesome deal and decided not to sit on the fence and wait for the unknown.
If you want it then buy it. Be done with it.
For an exceptional deal if your wondering, visit Pleasanton Mercedes-Benz and talk to Mr. Michael Poole. First rate and best pricing in Northern California.

First of all – I wouldn’t say my deal was “sweet “ . It was about 11% off MSRP, which was okay for that time without USAA discount, but I bought 3 years maintenance program, which dealer likes to sell and makes money on it also.

I hear you, but still, I hope I can get something close to what you got. Doing so I can say the car is worth it. I believe thats one way of making a vehicle purchase reasonable, (if you can get it on a discount from the get go). It somehow negates the rate of depreciation of an overly priced suv. Remember when you say, your vehicle now still cost more than what you paid for, when you checked its value on ebay? I like that, that's a product of a clever consumer ( or a lucky one) ... It can be a long shot, but its worth a try...

Yes, I remember that, but it's not as simple as it sounds. It cost more only when it's CPO from MB dealer, but I'm sure it will not cost the same if I'm going to sell it myself, but honestly - I hope you're right. Let us know the result of your search. It will be interesting to see latest Bluetec prices.

Do you think I will be able to find a lightly optioned or base model GL450 for under 50k? I'm located in Los Angeles but willing to fly out(within 1000 miles) and drive the car home.

P.S. Honestly - I would lease GL450 today for 2 years. I think it's the best deal right now. You can get this car for under $700. It can be even cheaper if you can afford one pay lease program. Can't be better deal.

I'll state the obvious here, but I don't think MBUSA or for that matter any auto company ever plans to do great incentives. They try to have their manufacturing plan match their sales plan. Everyone strives for a balanced supply/demand plan.
I don't think you can necessarily presume that past performance is an indicator of future performance.
