Okay guys, weigh in. Need 4 new tires for the GL450, curious to see what tires you guys like best.

Bear in mind, it sees 4 seasons of duty here in Buffalo NY. Also keep in mind that my other half and I are both leadfoots, I have to keep reminding her it's not the E55...lol

So all weather traction, quiet operation, decent handling, and respectable treadwear are all concerns....

If you have the 18" wheels you will find a lot more choices ..... If you have the 19"s ..... Very little...and none that meet all of your citeria for more than 10k miles. When I had my 07 with 18s, I had Bridgestone tires......I wanted the same qualities as you ..... Bottom line is ANY tire in the large sizes that is any good in the snow is going to be noisier than you will like after a few thousand miles. The quietest tires are the original Contis...... They also wear out fast and are crap in the snow....I have. Pirelli 19's on my 2011 GL, they are great in the snow but ride like rocks and equally noisy........not sure what I will try next!

Had no problems with my 18" wheels on my 2007. Nothing good in 275/55/R19 for my 2010, so I drive on 255/55/R19 Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded snow tires in winter an Nokian GR2W SUV all season in summer. The Contis and Michelins hydroplaned dangerously and wore out ridiculously fast.

Same with Pirellis. I have 21's. Worst tires I have ever had. Won't stay balanced and 2 were defective from the start.

Try Tire Rack recommendations. Conti Eco have a great tread, relatively quiet and incredible in light snow (northern california mountains with a propensity for ice) and the wet. Have a road hazard and mileage gurantee. BTW, I am now on my third set of tires on my 2008 GL all bought through TireRack.

As I said earlier the 19"s are a real pain....not much available....BUT, a subsidiary of Toyo called Nitto is now making a 275 x 55 x19 that comes with a 50k warranty AND is getting pretty good reviews out there AND... costs under $300...... I just ordered a set from Tirebuyer.com I figure they gotta be better than the Pirelli junk I have on now.....12k miles and the tread is still reasonable, BUT.... like riding on stone, noisy and bumpy beyond belief! Just not appropriate for a vehicle of this class.

I just installed the yokohama parada this past weekend. Right off the dealer lot I could feel the difference in road quiteness. Will have to wait till winter to see how the tires handle Toronto snow.

We have a GL450 with Yokahoma Geolander ATS tires - and a Grand CHerokke with Yokahoma Geolander HTS. BOTH have VERY deep tread, great wear - not very quiet, but in the snow belts (PA, NE) they HAUL. Other brands got chewed up too fast. My $$ is on Yokahoma...

Another vote for the Toyo Versado CUVs.

I had mine installed earlier this year (275/55/19) and have approx. 6k miles on them already.

The combination of these tires, plus an alignment (3 wheels were out of alignment when we had them installed...LOL) has resulted in a nice quiet ride.

They handle well in the rain too.

What are my choices (getting rid of the run flats) for all season 20" tires? Cost and longevity are not as imprtant as comfort (for me anyway).

You have tens of choices, depending on a size you wanna get. It's cheaper to get 285/50/20 tires and there are a lot of them available. 275/50/20 more expensive. The difference in comfort is huge. I changed mine when the car had about 2K miles, now it has 15K and tires look brand new.

I switched from Dunlap Sport Max 275/55/19 tires to the Nitto Motivo and the GL450 is SO MUCH BETTER NOW. Ride is better, quieter too.. handling has even improved. I'm not sure but the Motivo's seem a little bigger (taller) than the Dunlops and therefore fill up the wheel-well a bit more so yeah, the truck even looks better. The Nitto's have a 60K warranty.

I'm pretty stoked about these tires. They've made a tremendous improvement in the GL.

I have had two sets of Michelins and they were singing after 10k miles and completely worn out before 30k. I now have the Toyo Versado CUVs (275/55/19) with a 50k warranty. They are very, very quiet and handle well. I have about 10k on these tires and they are still as quiet as they were day 1.

I too went with the Toyo Versado CUV (275/55/19) in July 2013 and justreturned from a 2,500 mile road trip. The tires were great and super quite. Thereviews I read on the forums and my mechanics recommendation led me to thesetires and I couldn't be happier. Not to mention I saved about $150 per tire bygoing with Toyo. They performed well at highway speeds in a torrentialdownpour. I'll see how they do when we get our first Midwestern snow storm in afew months but I suspect they'll be great.

We always recommend the Versado CUV when someone calls with a ML or GL class. Haven't had a complaint on them yet. Even had customers willing to pay more for Michelins or Continentals. Snow traction on the CUV is supposed to be excellent as well according to several user reviews. I would highly suggest anybody looking for tires to check these out. I can highly recommend Vredestein Sessanta tires http://www.performanceplustire.com/p...AOA#prodAnchor. If you haven't heard of Vredestein don't worry, I hadn't either but they were raving about them on the Corvette forums. I bought them for a '06 GTO and I could not have been happier. Fantastic tire that somehow was sticky, extremely quiet throughout it's entire life, and yet lasted about 17K if I recall. They were also very resistant to hydroplaning. They were also about $40 less than the OEM. Of course this would require additional winter tires but if you get any appreciable snow, winter tires are an excellent investment.

I've got 5k on mine, and about 500 miles ago, the vehicle started experiencing some floating/wandering issues up front. I had it into the dealer to correct a looseness and knock up front, steering knuckles were replaced, all mounts and bushings "re-tightned," whatever that means.

I have experimented with 32, 34, and 35 psi all around. I rotated them at 3k, and plan to do so at 3k intervals. They've been balanced twice. Had an alignment done, (was also aligned the day tires were put on), it was out (camber), fixed 75% of the problem immediately, but still feels like it wants to dart to the left or right if I'm on an uneven road surface.

Same thing happened with the Pirellis, which were uneven and roaring by 10k.

Tread depth looks like I will get 30-40k out of these tires, whether that's with even or uneven wear remains to be seen

Toyo Versado CUV's here and very happy, quietest tires I've owned so far and so far have been really good off road on some really steep hills covered with wet leaves dirt/mud etc. etc. can't speak to deep snow yet as it hasn't snowed much here yet. The price was tough to beat.

I have a 2007 GL450 with 122,000 miles with 19" rims. Original owner. Car eats tires and I have tried them all until I got Hankooks! Now at 44,000 miles and counting. Great in rain and light-moderate snow (Sierra's). Quiet and smooth until about the last 2K miles, they are nearing the end. The dealer is amazed and I am buying them again!

Yeah, they're good overall and have been great up to the last 500 miles (I'm not blaming the tires, at least not yet). How many miles do you have on them? What PSI do you run? What's your rotation schedule?

I have around 10,000 on them currently, I keep them at 32psi and rotate around 5-6000 miles. We are supposed to get around 6" of the white stuff and a bunch of ice starting tomorrow, I'll try them out in it and see how they do. Certainly not as bad as Buffalo's weather can get.
