GL450 Power Lift-gate closes but not engaging
The dealer has adjusted it several times and always said it just needed adjusting and now out of warrantee. Any idea how to fix this myself?

Unfortunately this is a part of the car I haven't torn into yet. If you are handy and have time you can remove the trim panel on the sill and look for where the catch (silver ring) adjusts. Move it out toward the rear of the car slightly and see if that helps. If not, the latch may be going bad.
The more professional approach would be this:

A 24hr subscription is $18 I think but you can dig into all aspects of the vehicle with repair information. It's printable too so I collected the data for several anticipated repairs while my sub was active.

Mine just broke yesterday. Indy repair shop is fixing it this morning for $600 and the part was in town so this must be a regular thing. Mine would not open but you could hear the servo running. You had to use the latch on the inside top of the rear door to manually open it. It would close on its own when you pushed the button and sound like it latched but the interior lights would not turn off and the red warning signal on the dash would stay lit. This is the 1st time in 145K miles I have ever had an issue with this door.

Ouch is right! MSRP for the part is $280.00
I don't know the book time but I'd be surprised if it's anywhere near 2 hours.
Hopefully you got a car wash and air freshener too!

I've got a 2010 GL550 and it's doing the same thing. Took the motor/lock out and lubricated. Worked for another week, now it's failing again. I found the motor (Pt# 1647400735) for $221 at a MB Dealer that sells online. Locally they wanted $320 and wouldn't budge on price. So it will be here in a few days, but I saved ~$100 in part's cost, plus labor. It shouldn't take more than thirty minutes to replace (since I've had it removed once before).

Here's another look at the panel once it's removed (you'll need to disconnect the small wiring harness too).
Once removed, you'll expose the motor and its mounting screws. They are T30 in size (there's three of them).

Next, you'll need to carefully pry/release the interior door molding. If you have the correct pry tool, it's easy and you won't damage the parts.
You don't need to remove the panel, just release enough snaps to see where the cable connects (to the inside hatch lever).

I know it's hard to see, but it's fairly easy. Just follow the cable. It disconnects easy too. The cable housing snaps into place and the ball-end comes right out.
Once the cable is disconnected, the rest is self explanatory. The motor comes out pretty easy, just rotate 90 degrees and slide out. Pay attention to the way the cable was routed and make sure the new cable goes in the same way.
Once the new motor/cable are back in the place, align the clips/snaps and push the panel back into place.
I promise it took less than 30 minutes to do (even with taking pictures, etc.). The dealer quoted me $320 for the part and $278 for labor. I did the whole thing for $220 plus shipping.
Good luck!

The tool I have is a "door panel removal tool" and/or "Upholstery Remover". I don't remember where I got mine, but they are available on Amazon and hopefully your local auto parts store.
They are less than $10 or $20 for a complete kit
