Following these pics and instructions, did this replacement in about 20 mins. Part from eBay for $220. Could not have been any easier and really appreciate the photo documentation from 2010GL550.

To all you who contributed to this thread, and especially a huge shout out to 2010GL550, THANK YOU!
Had to take my daughter to the airport at 4:00 AM. The latch picked this time to fail on me. It lifted and closed okay, but wouldn't latch, only making a rattling noise. So I drove anyway, enduring the error messages. Had to manually turn off the lights. Picking up my daughter's friend at 3:45, I was already on my phone looking up the problem.
By 5:00 AM, after reading this thread, I was on Amazon and Ebay. Ordered a full upholstery tools set, $21. But only needed the wide one as per the pictures. Ordered the latch, $228 + tax.
Next day, delivery from Amazon and Ebay. I swear it took no longer than 20 minutes. I took some pictures, but they don't really add anything. Works like a charm. I saved myself $bux and a time consuming trip to the indy shop.
Just breathe deep and relax when you are popping off the panels. I always freak, expecting the plastic to shatter.

Thanks again. You guys are the best!

When I first bought our GL, this issue was the first thing I discussed with the dealership (besides the air bag shocks going bad). I agree, this thread deserves a sticky. Thanks for the DIY post-up, guys. Saving hundreds of dollars is a good thing!

Liftgate not working
Liftgate stopped working last week. I do hear the locking mechanism working; however, the liftgate is not moving when I push the buttom. I'm not sure which part I need to buy and how to replace it. Thank you very much for advice.

I saw a guy did a coil spring retrofit to his GL. Kind of "punishing the truck for its bad behavior".
Wouldn't it be awesome if someone came up with a retrofit to turn that back hatch into a manual system?
