Transfer Case Fluid ?

Hey folks, just picked up a used 2008 320 CDI. I'm quite fond of it already( in spite of being parked on the highway home for 7 1/2 hours when they closed it while a horrific wreck was cleared up. I'm getting set do the usual fluid transfusions. Tranny was just serviced as well as an oil change so I'll be doing the transfer case and differentials. The only problem I'm having is finding the proper fluid for the transfer case. There's really a lot of conflicting stuff out there. So what is the correct fluid for the transfer case ? Thanks. William

Transfer Case

Have you checked the MB Bevo approved fluids list for your year? My 2011 GL350 uses ATF 134 (Red) in the transfer case even though the transmission uses the newer Blue (7gtronic+).

Changed mine at 40k and it was dirty in my opinion. About to change it again at 80K.

Transfer case fluid is the same as the tranny fluid - 236.14 spec for 2008 trucks. Red in color. Febi/ Bilstein brand can be had at good price point.

Front and rear diffs take 235.7 or 235.74 for newer trucks. Mercedes brand 75w85 hyphoid diff oil satisfies both specs.

Always remove the top plug first....

Thanks for the info guys. The differentials and transfer case will be getting new fluids. Removing the fill plug first is always good to remember ( for obvious reasons ). Take care, William

You can get the ATF 134 at AutoZone. They keep it in the back for repair shops that request it. They had it near me for about $18/liter. Better then the $30/liter from the dealer. OMG $30 per liter!

Yes. The Mobil 134 is an option. However the Benz brand can be sourced for less money and is well... Oem

Ended up finding a decent deal on a quart of Febi.(The nearest Mercedes dealer is 170 miles away) I'm finding the care and feeding of the 320CDI to be an interesting learning curve. Thanks for the help guys, William
