hey all

when i get my used gl450 it did not come with keys for the roof rack and i was wondering if the keys are univeral or are they all different?? i would like to remove my rack and either get the chrome rack or just keep the rack off totally since i never use it and plus i think itll look better without it. any insight?? thanks

Unfortunately they are not universal. When I bought my '08 the dealer lost the keys to the roof rack, they had to bust the old ones off and order me new ones. I even had someone here from the forum mail me a key and it did not work. I do believe someone was able to have theirs rekeyed, hopefullyl they will chime in.

The keys can be ordered from Thule. Check the face of the lock core on the roof rack, and order keys for that number core from their website.

I have a 2009 Mercedes ML350 that came with a roof rack. I have the key. It says Chateau on it. I cannot get the key in the locks. I want to sell the car and the buyer may try the key.... I dont have the directions. Is there a trick or something I have to move to get the key to work? The locks are recessed in and not flush.

You may want to post on the ML board. Ours were manufactured by Thule.

This sounds like the type of question best asked of a dealer. If it is as simple as it seems the SA will probably answer for free or demonstrate the correct method. Bring it in to them and ask!
