As a fifty something I don't know if a hot hatch (even if they call it a crossover) is a good look for me. news of a higher horsepower GLK might make it a more "grown up" looking, high-powered, small suv.

Might be time to just cool my jets and see how this GLK starts to come together.

Ha...this car is rumored to be at the Paris auto show in two weeks, and in production as a 2016...so this could be as early as June or Oct like the GLA. I'm shopping for an interim ML63 or even a glk350 just to see if the size works. I'm stunned to find that the interior dimensions of the GLA are very close to the GLK and my current ford suv.

I'm a total MESS. I'm replacing my daily driver small SUV. and it occurs to me that after ten years of buying cars for hauling the kid and her sports sh*t around, I don't need that much cargo room. I need AWD, room for four(maybe riding comfortably for two hours)and some giddy up.

There will be no GLK at Paris next month. The new GLK will likely be shown early next year like at Geneva in March or in New York in April. The AMG version will be shown sometime after that, so it will be at least a year from now.

I kind of understand what you are saying being late-40s myself and looking to replace my RDX in 3-4 years. The kid inside me still loves a GTI but prefer the higher step-in of a compact SUV. The GLA45 and RSQ3 (if it makes it here) would be a good match since the Macan is too big and too expensive once loaded up.

Did Mercedes announce an AMG version of the upcoming GLK?

This is getting closer to development, and has been spotted at the AMG center at nurburgring several times over the past month. I've read accounts of this cars appearance and they all refer to an AMG variant...and with production details like engine size (twin turbo v-8)and production timeline. While not an official release announcement, this info is coming from somewhere. This vehicle is apparently different in suspension than prior "GLC" variants spied at the 'ring.
Forever the skeptic/optimist...this vehicle has no AMG components hanging on it but large front rotors/calipers. unlike the last(spied) version, this model "sounded" like it had a v-8. Tune my ML's v-8, put in in a vehicle weighing 1000lbs less? zoiks.

I read the new glk will be bigger to differentiate it from the gla, and less boxy looking. Sounds like a beast w/ a tt v8 . Pricey i'm sure too.

Glk starts at $39, so figure $45 base for the new one. Plus $15k for AMG, then options...out the door at $70k...about $10k more than the GLA45.

You're probably not too far off. I'm figuring high 70's to low 80's to slot it between the GLA and the ML AMG (or whatever it will be called).

It depends how many engine options they offer. If they offer four motors....bluetec, 6cyl, 8 cyl turbo, 8cyl amg (like the ML series)...then suddenly the AMG could be 80k, the "550" would be 65 ish? I just don't think they can get away with charging $40k more for an AMG...but now that you mention it, that MLamg is about a $30k premium.

I took delivery of my cpo ML550 on monday...I told my wife last night that she can plan on a trip to Germany to take delivery of the new GLC in early 2016. At this point she has eye cramps from rolling her eyes so much.
