GLK
I used a kit from DDM Tuning for my truck (Dodge Ram). It was a breeze to install in terms of the wiring being plug and play, no hassles.

And it was a breeze since the truck has a lot more room in which to work than the GLK.

If you are considering installing an HID kit, the DDM one is worth a look.

I'm not concerned with the installation; I'm a good mechanic.

My concern is changing something in a system that is obviously designed not to be messed with.

I doubt that your Dodge Ram gives error messages when you put in the wrong light bulb!

I've got other things to do than try to reinvent the wheel.

Hey everyone, I replaced my oem bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar Ultras. Really a nice super clean white light. As far as removing the bulbs. All you need to do, is lift up on the pin. The pin slides upwards, and you can then remove the bulb. The exact opposite to install, just hold the bulb in place, and slide the pin down. That's all there is to it. Just my two cents.

I had a kit professionally installed, yet still ran into a few problems, I was hoping one of you had a solution to this...

they said they had to tie it into the marking lights, so now when i turn the light knob, both the marking light position and the low beam position activate the low beams, essentially ridding the car of the marking light position. also, when i turn on the lights, i receive errors saying that both headlight bulbs are out

does anyone have an idea as to how to fix this?

Yeah, put back the lights that the car was designed to use.

Did you have to do all those taping on the bulbs like what they say here or it's just pretty much just really plug and play? I just bought the Xentech kits off ebay and will install it myself. Thanks for the pics, by the way. I got an idea on how to install it now.

I'm guessing you installed the wrong bulbs for your GLK to cause that error. Did you get it resolved?

i did get it resolved, it was the right bulb type, the shop just didn't really know what they were doing, i went back to have them take a look at it and they quickly realized why it wasn't working properly

now my problem is that the driver side headlight's aim seems to be off and there seems to be some light leakage, which i don't understand since the passenger side is fine

What did they do wrong? Light leakage? Where?

i'm not sure why the passenger side came out fine and the driver side didn't, but it seems the driver side headlight is lower than the passenger side, and when sitting in the driver's seat (facing 12 o'clock, let's say), there's bright line of light projected onto the ground towards 10 o'clock, the line extends infinitely from the car until it dies out...the passenger side is perfect though, i'm gonna see if i can figure it out myself cause i really don't feel like going back to this shop

It sounds like the bulb is not seated properly and the light you see is from the prism or reflector shaped backing to the bulb housing. The bulb sits in a plastic socket which sits in a plastic housing. Something is not seated right.

Have to be very careful. Do not handle the bulb itself without wearing gloves or a clean rag. Can't get any oil from your fingers or a rag on the bulb. It will shorten the bulb life.

Need help on the wiring. How did you know which one is positive or negative on the original plug? I saw a yellow and brown cables. That's where I pretty much stopped to make sure I'm installing it right. Thanks.

Did anybody who DIY'd the HID have to use a ballast? Any flickering problems? Also, is it worth drilling a hole on the bulb cover and sacrifice the moisture seal? Did u get any moisture when u did drill a hole? Lastly, is there anyway around to not drilling anything? Sorry for all these questions but I'm guessing everyone who has researched is exactly asking this same questions right now. Thank you.

I'm guessing they didn't put the H7 bulbs the right way. It has a latch that has to be underneath the housing for it to sit properly. They also probably didn't get to put the pin right so theres no light leakage. That's why installing it yourself would be your best bet.

Is there a cap that you have to drill through for the wiring, you know on the back of the headlamp housing...

Also, does anyone know where to get a MTEC kit for less than $300 ???

yeah you gotta drill a hole through the cap to feed the wires through, just a few inches from the bulb itself should be a rubber seal which will seal the drilled hole

HID Kit (Xentec) Installation Instruction with Pics

After researching and asking questions on this thread which was never really answered, I finally installed it myself and took pictures for those who want to DIY their HID kits. Xentec is my recommended kit because the ballast is small and can be easily put anywhere in the engine compartment. Also, it's CHEAP but not made cheap. I also suggest installing a ballast to avoid flickering bulbs. The HID kit by the way is for an H7 bulb. I got the 6000K which is white with a small hint of blue color.
NOW LET'S START INSTALLING:
First, you need to check if the lights work. Follow the instructions on the kit and test it out first. By the way, YELLOW wire is positive and the TWO BROWN wires are negative. So Yellow on Red wire then Brown on Black wire. If everything is working, then you can proceed.

First of, take out the Low Beam cover. Refer to your owners manual if you don't know where it is. Now, this is how the bulbs are secured onto the housing. By pulling the pins up CAREFULLY, this will disengage the bulb. Make sure u don't pull the pins out or you'll have a hard time putting it back. Just simply slowly pull it up. Take out the OEM bulb, put the H7 HID bulb. Secure it in place while pulling down the pin and there you go. Honestly, the driver side was easier to put than the passenger side. Everyone else was saying it was harder on the driver side. Note: Use your left hand on the driver side to make your life easier. Here is how the bulbs would look:

Passenger Side:

Driver Side:

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/fba64152.jpg

Then look for a secure place to put the ballast. I put mine on top of the headlight housing. Mine came with a double sided industrial grade tape. Some have the screw on housing. This is the pic of the top housing. Plenty of space and the Xentec ballast is fairly small so it's a perfect fit.

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/b2e0154b.jpg

Assemble all the parts needed. Also, take the low beam cover and drill a hole in it enough to put the plastic socket and the wires in it for installation. The bulb wire are in the housing so it is necessary to put a hole in the cover.

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/0462ea4c.jpg

Here is the one with the double sided tape on:

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/ed87a054.jpg

Put it on all the wiring. Everything is plug and play so it should be easy. Remember, yellow wire = red wire & two brown wires = black wire. Secure everything with an electric tape. As you can see, on mine, I put a roll of electric tape around the wiring and used that to cover the hole that I drilled on the cover. This will prevent leaking. You can also buy those plastic sealants and put it in there. Those are scratches on the cover, by the way. It's not cracked because of drilling. I was too lazy to buy a 3/4 drill so I just used the biggest one I had and drilled it until the hole got bigger. I was slipping hence the scratches.

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/0c73edf5.jpg

Here's an example of the Yellow and Brown Wire. Sorry, my hands look crusty. Its dry season here in Socal.

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/970cfd63.jpg

Electric Tape everything:

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/9582c697.jpg

Test it out first before you put the cover back. If everything is working, put the cover back and secure the ballast in place.

Here is how it will look like:

I bought a Philips HID Conversion Kit; however the instructions do not specify which cable is positive or negative. There are two colors blue and black.
Also, I cannot find places to mount the ballasts properly
Can anyone with the same kit help?

i would assume that black is negative, and there are several places surrounding the lamp that you can zip tie the ballasts to, you just gotta get creative

You did a very admirable job in figuring out things on your own. My suggestion for next time is if you have a question and you can't find a thread that is more germane to your question you should start your own thread. This way you can monitor results and hope that all that view your thread will post relevant information.
