Backup camera Part1

Which camera did you finaly get? Yours seems to have a better angle for looking further back. Although mine is great for parallel parking so you can really see how close you are to the guy behind, I would like to see a longer view. I could modify the mount, but at $25 it is easier just to replace it.
Bop,
The camera i got is from eBay, which is around $26US.
Those measure lines are not accurate, as you can see at 0.5M it's already at my car's bumper. At first, I wanted to adjusted the camera's angle to reflect the line's accuracy but I didn't do it mainly because I don't want to going through the whole trouble of creating a bracket.
But for 26 bucks, I am not complaining at all.

Does any of you have experience installing on a non-Nav GLK 350 2012?
I just got my 2012 GLK 350. It doesn't have the backup camera neither the navigation system, but it does have the standard 5' LCD. I am thinking to install a backup camera. Does anyone have recommendations on what I should buy? I was looking at the NAV TV interface which itself costs whopping 700 bucks.
And does anyone in Seattle area know a good shop to install that? The MB recommended shop asks for $1800!!!

This camera is PAL colour encoding system-only.Pleasee find out what system(NTSC,PAL or Secam) is supported by your monitor/Navi system. Please let us know if you need NTSC or Secam camera.
How do I know which one I need--PAL, NTSC or Secam? I have a 2010 GLK with small monitor and NAV. Thx.

You need NTSC
That camera would also be HIGHLY suspect as false advertising too. It would be very difficult to actually make, and assemble a CCD camera for that price. I would suspect it is really a CMOS, as they are very common in that price. The typical layman would not know to challenge the advertising, so easy for them to get away with it. It would also be impossible for it to have a glass lens and is plastic at that price. Plastic lens 'craze' or fog rather quickly do to road grime, salts, exhaust gasses, etc.

The eBay descriptions include the following caveat:

When I ordered mine, it came as NTSC.
They will send you other format only if you request it.
Cartronics might be right, it might be CMOS instead of CCD.
I couldn't be bother for that amount of $$, it works well for me so far.

BLE27: OK. Then all should be well. I'm looking at the Sony CCD cams on eBay. They are NTSC so all should be well. And for those prices I'm not concerned about glass vs. plastic lenses.

The reason we mention it, is most cameras have a permanent connection and you have to require most if not the whole thing when replacing... That takes a lot of time and as installer if we have to do it more than once, we loose serious money.

CARTRONICS: Point well taken! Following the procedures outlined in this thread, I believe the replacement should be limited to the area from the RCA connection at the drivers rear tailight access to the camera, minimizing the pain somewhat for DIY-ers.

Sorry guys I didn't understand one thing. Wiring. How do I put wires through the cabin? I mean from the tail gate to COMMAND? Is there any special pipe or how is this intended to be done? I read the CABLES section twice but still don't understand it.
Lets say I brought the cable from camera to rear left section and connected it to 12V power source at the back. Now, how can I bring the VIDEO cable further through cabin to COMMAND? This part I don't understand.

Basically, you have to extend Video RCA to the command unit. You might have to buy an RCA extension ( I did), then hook it to the back of the command unit through FAKRA connector.
My biggest concern was taking out the command unit and scratch the surrounding areas at the time.
I read the instruction a few times over, including the ones from C-class forum.

When I did it I have the same concern as you do, but in fact it's quite straight forward.

How should I bring the wire from back to front? I mean I can literally put the wire between the seats, but it will not be aesthetically beautiful nor convenient at all. So the wires must be hidden somewhere, but where? And how?

a. I snaked the video cable across the dash behind the steering wheel with a coat hanger from the removable plate on the side of the dash.
b. Removed the plastic trim along the front door opening so to put the wire behind the left side material down to the botom
c. I ran the cable from the front down the under the door sill plate
Just pull the door sill straight up
d. Under the rear door sill, no need to pull this one off. Just push cable under from the inside.
e. Up the back of the rear door opening (remove the trim piece for access) and snaked it through the padding into the back where I could connect to the RCA jack from the camera
Please note I did not have to drill any holes to do any
of this job. The holes are there you just need to find them. d. I taped the RCA connectors together.
The wire is completely hidden

Thanks guys for the replies! That resolved the question. Now I got another question about camera wires.
I realized that I have 3 wires going out from my camera. I attached the screenshot. What are "Wire A", "Wire B" and "Wire C" for?

I'll check it today which is which.
Got another question. I took COMMAND out and the Green plug is already taken by something inserted into it! What should I do?
Thanks guys for help, I feel like I am very close to the finals

The plug with the green connector is where the backup camera plug into.
I am not sure what you have there before.... could be a backup camera before that ??
