From memory, manual says if you have to, add just a little to get to somewhere with premium, then refill. Once added, keep RPM's below 3000 (IIRC) and no hard acceleration or towing.
Sure you are not the first though...

Oh.. See you are in New York. Now I understand. Hope Sandy was kind to you. Have some family that got walloped in Jersey.
Get what you can for gas, and just drive easy. At this point the fact that you can actually find a station with power and fuel to sell is good enough.

According to the 2012 GLK Operator's Manual (http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...-GLK-Class.pdf):

"! To ensure the longevity and full performance of the engine, only premiumgrade unleaded gasoline may be used. If there is no premium-grade unleaded gasoline available and regular-grade unleaded gasoline may be used; please observe the following precautions:

only fill the fuel tank to half full with regular-grade unleaded gasoline and fill the rest with premium-grade unleaded gasoline as soon as possible.

do not drive at the maximum speed.

avoid sudden acceleration.

if the vehicle is carrying a light load, e.g. two passengers without luggage, do not allow the engine to rev above 3,000 rpm.

● if the vehicle is fully loaded or is being operated in mountainous terrain, do not depress the accelerator pedal further than 2/3 of the pedal travel."

In line with digiturbo's memory.

I've seen the pictures from the fire in Queens - awful!

My daughter has twice filled it with regular and I've not noticed anything. It was not less than 1/4 full each time she did and I put premium in it when I got it back.

Question about this: What is the compression ratio of the engine that requires 91-93 octane fuel? Last car I had like that was a '69 Pontiac GTO with 10.75 cr.

Tony Nwankwo, owner of the BP gas station on 110.th (in the City), claimed two days ago that he had gas - and would get supplies

Why not just pick up a few bottles of octane booster from your local auto parts store and simply pour some in the gas tank when you are forced to fill up with 87 or 89?

I wouldn't do that. I believe that booster stuff is just the old tetra-ethyl lead that used to be in gasoline. It would be cheaper to do that on a regular basis if it was OK than paying for a tank of 93.

Yes, I watched that last eves as well.... but it's really only talking about whether a car designed to run on regular, will run better with premium! As I pay Canadian Premium prices as well (.10>.14/litre) I was hoping to hear anything about engines designed to run on premium, and what/if any effects would happen running reg in a GLK. Unfortunately, that wasn't the 'gist' of the show, rather, the reverse. I have read many viewpoints on this but have not received a comforting response. Here's a 'lively' debate on that question...
https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class-x204/389883-premium-gas-my-new-glk.html
And before any of the boys with deep pockets come on to say.. "I'm cheap" Please... most USA pumps change .10 /GALLON (maybe $3>4 fill-up) but here in Canada $10>13/ fill-up does add up.
Oh, yes, I also have heard the saying "Premium car...premium fuel!"
My previous car was a Murano SE, ran it on reg even though premium designed engine. No ill effects at 170K kms, no better/worse gas MILEAGE... knock sensor would back off timing with cheap gas to compensate, but the car still saw approx same mileage!
The biggest problem I have with Premium fuel is the Oil companies.... just last week... reg gas was down to $1.13/litre.... premium, a whopping $1.29/litre...! Yep.... $0.17 more a litre??? To our American friends, that would be $0.70 per gallon... not exactly 'chump' change!

you would have to use alot of bottles to make a difference and theyre not cheap. Dont worry about using the 89. The car is Naturally Aspirated and is not as finicky when it comes to knock/detonation. You will be fine.
